I have a sight pusher tool and I need to replace some front sights. Normally I would place the tool at the bottom, in the dovetail. Problem is that the part of the sight in the dove tail is very thin, the edge is rounded and easy to damage. To make matters worse, the sight tool does not have a sharp corner at the bottom, it is slightly rounded off, which makes it even harder to push on the dovetailed portion of the sight, it will slip.
I replaced a front sight in a Kahr slide by pushing the vertical part of the sight, by positioning the tool right next to the vertical portion all the way down. It worked this time but I'm wondering, is this the right way, or if I keep doing it like that I will end up damaging expensive sights?
