View Full Version : IDPA concealment garment - for ladies?
Not sure if I should post this here, or in the competition forum, but I need input from other ladies who do practical shooting.
I'm a new shooter, and did my first match last fall. At the time, the weather was cool, so I just wore my gore-tex jacket for a "concealment garment". But when the weather warms up, I'll be looking for other options. Sure, I can just go with the standard "Tacti-Cool" vest, but I'd like to explore other options. I'm even toying with the idea of sewing something up myself.
What do you ladies wear for your concealment requirement in competition?
I'm just a guy, but I found the travel vests from places like TravelSmith are functional, fitted by gendar and not so "tactical" looking.
Welcome to GlockTalk and shooting IDPA. GSSF is a lot of fun too.
My wife uses one of these. Boyt Womens Safari Vest. You can get from Boyt here:
But its much cheaper here:
Good length. Doesn't look tactical. Depending on your holster setup, you may have to go one size larger than you normally wear. My wife got a small at first. Fit her great without her gear, but her drop and offset holster poked out quite a bit. She went to a medium and it was perfect.
I have observed several of the women and some of the men shooters just wearing the typical Florida t-shirt with a longer button up shirt as their concealment garment. Seems to work ok, and being more light weight, it is a whole lot cooler in summer than my SUPER DOUBLE NOUGHT SPY TACTICOOL VEST:wow:
I know one lady who shoots a pink M&P who had someone that makes concealed carry vests make her a pink vest. Looks nice though I've never been into pink.
Myself I got a Woolrich Elite Series Lightweight Discreet Carry Vest that I have used. I don't think it looks too tactical and have actually worn the OD green one & a black one for CCW.
Expensive but Concealed Carry Clothing makes a nice women's vest.
Also the Dale Hunnicut vests which were designed for IDPA has an interesting looks & colors.
Or as others have said, go with a shirt you can pull back. Just make sure if you're at a big state/regional shoot it covers the gun & holster when you lift your arms. They do check at those matches.
Silly Hawaiian shirts (the print keeps one from printing) over a tanktop. generally have to sew a couple pennies in the bottom below the buttons/holes in order to get it to swing out or the way instead of catching on gear.
