View Full Version : Silver bear 125gr SP
Anyone have any reviews of Silver bear 125 gr SP ammo, or any tests? I figure it would be a better buy for SD than FMJ.
A lot of rifles don't reliably feed soft and hollow point ammunition. Full metal jacket ammunition is the most reliable. If you want to try something else, buy a small amount first and make sure it functions 100% in your rifle. It can vary a great deal from brand to brand too as they load to different cartridge lengths.
Well, if it helps...i'm shooting it out of a wasr-10. I haven't had any ammo issues so far, just magazines not filling to max capacity.
I recommend that you try that exact ammunition before buying a large amount of it.

The reason for this would be the bullet guide lip is either not high enough
or not close enough to the magazine lip. Installing a new taller lipped guide will fix the lower angle problem and will improve reliablity for even FMJ bullets.
My experience is that the SP will often feed when an HP won't. The lead tip is a little more forgiving/lubricated than the perpendicular flat top of an HP
But - as always, try some first to see in your gun.
I've had great luck with Silver Bear, shot a case of it through my Norinco without any hiccups. Accurate too
It's not always the tip of the bullet but the fact that many soft point and hollow point bullets are loaded shorter than full metal jacket bullets that causes the most feeding problems. It's not all rifles, so comparing what works in one rifle to another rifle is not great way to judge how reliable the ammunition is in the other rifle.
I've used these in my WASR with absoutly no issues. I think I ended up with 260rds in a trade deal a month or so ago. I do have a "feed ramp" on my AK so that could be another reason I have never had any issues with feeding it anything.....:dunno:
