Hi all, I've been lurking in forums and forums went to a gun show and no luck in finding a new or used 20" 870 12 gauge barrel. Broke down and bought this from remington's country store; http://www.remingtoncountrystore.com/PartsProductCompact.aspx?catalogid=1&categoryid=3566&productid=3029&topcat=1038 I think I got an okay deal, midway usa was selling them for $174.00? I got it for $127 shipped, so for those of you who have this kind of barrel with rifle sights how do you like it? This would be a good combo since i have a 870 with the 28" barrel for trap.
On the other hand, how are 'Slip on Slings' for shotguns, will there be too much loose rope around that will get stuck with the for end? Or should I go with a riveted sling? Drill into wood, etc how does it work?

I enjoy the rifle sights on my 870's. It allows me to sight in using rifled slugs and are equally useful for directing buckshot. I actually prefer rifle sights to bead sights. I think you did quite well for the price, actually.

Now, you need to sight it in (if using slugs) or pattern buckshot on paper to know the capabilities of your new barrel. Remember, it may prefer some slugs or buckshot over others.

Don't want to comment on a sling setup, since I have nothing to go on as far as your configuration.

I happen to love the rifle sights.. When I shoulder my 870 it is always spot on the target!
Not sure about the slings, Tho I think I need to get some soon for some classes I hope to take.

Enjoy your new tool and get some trigger time.

I will guys, I think i should of priced matched with midwayusa since shipping would be faster! But oh well, I'm excited to get this barrel, will look better than the 28" barrel for trap. In addition, 20" will be allowed for my trap sessions also I never knew how much these dang barrels weighed!

I have a R870 with 20in slug sights / smooth barrel and I love it. I can put slugs into 2in at 50yds and it also makes buck shot patterns more on target for HD. Finally, I purchased a Remington factory 3 shot extension tube which gives me 7 2-3/4 shells in the tube and 1 in the pipe. Also, I installed a Hogue short length-of-pull overmolded stock and forend. Combined with the 20in barrel, the reduced length-of-pull stock results in an overall length just 1/2in longer than a standard Rem870HD with 18.5in barrel with 6 shells in the tube - Love it:

Rifle sights work great for me.

Only one word of caution. Under recoil of the slugs, you need to tighten the pinch screw (for elevation on the rear) pretty hard. I thought I tightened it adequately, but eventually under slug recoil (approx 25 slugs) during a 3-gun match I noticed it had moved. Mine are Wingmasters with the polished blue finish, so I would guess the police or express finish would grip better but I don't know what finish you have. Just my experience.
