View Full Version : Might I be getting something that Bac doesn't have??
I don't post much on this forum, but have lurked here for a long long time, mainly to enjoy the pictures that Bac puts up of guns that I will not be able to afford anytime in the near future. But, with graduating from college with a BA a few months behind me, and getting my badge pinned on only 10 days away, I figured it was time to get myself a little celebration present. So, last weekend I mailed off my down payment for a Springfield Custom Shop/10-8 Performance 1911, based off the SA Operator. The gun won't be ready for at least 4 months, more likely 6, due to the workload handled by SA's Custom Shop. Details on the pistol can be seen HERE (http://www.10-8forums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=90217&an=0&page=0#90217). For those of you not familiar with 10-8 Performance/Hilton Yam, he is the real deal when it comes to 1911's in duty use, and he knows how to set one up for that purpose. Anyway, I feel extremely lucky to be getting one of the 15 pistols from this run of guns.
My gun will be very similar to the gun pictured, which is from a previous run of 10-8's. Differences will be the addition of a 10-8 slide stop, 10-8 grips with mag release cut, and a SA magwell with recessed, integral lanyard loop.
This is going to be the longest 4-6 months of my life.

That'll be a great gun. Congrats on the graduation and the cool purchase.
As far as Bac not having one. I wouldn't put any money on it. He probably has an order in for the first one they finish.
I dunno about that. These guns are built in limited runs of 15 guns once or twice a year, and they usually sell out in less than an hour. I've wanted one for the past two years, but could never get on the list in time. This year I happened to be quick with my iPhone when the email came out announcing these available for pre-order. These guns are not available through the Custom Shop, they must be purchased through Hilton Yam/10-8 Performance directly, hence their rarity/exclusivity.
Very nice!
I don't own any railed 1911s, as they just aren't my thing. I will say Springfield Custom builds some of the best 1911s on the planet.
I have a TGO1. :)

I talked to Yam at the SHOT Show this year. He's a really nice guy, and just as squared away as his reputation would imply. I noticed his products popping up all over the place. Even Ed Brown is offering 10-8 sights as an option on their 1911's. More directly to this thread, that Operator looks great and the price is very reasonable for what you're getting. Be sure to post a follow up when you finally get to take it home.

Yeah, waiting for 1911s is a looong process. ;)

Absolutely awesome. I'm not usually a rail guy myself, but I've always felt SA makes the best looking of them. Very cool.

That is the "Alpha" concept gun, I believe Mr. Yam just sold that for close to $6000. From what I understand, he will be selling one-off "concept" guns as he completes them. One of those is also on my list of must-have guns.

Rails aren't my cup of tea either, but for that I could maybe make an exception!

Awesome pistol.

Beautiful gun! I have a set of 10-8 rear sights on my glock and my kimber, and someday I hope to own one of his 1911s.
I don't think Bac would have a 1911 with a tac rail. He's more of a shooter / collector than a tactical operator dude.

What Black finish is on that gun. It doesn't seem to be SA's standard finish it kinda looks like Black T. I know SA does offer that finish in there custom shop. That gun looks great
I just checked the spec list looks like it is the armory coat

My first experience with 10-8 gear was shooting a buddies 1911 that had a 10-8 rear sight on it. That started me down the path that has ended with me owning one of these guns. I've also been collecting parts to build up my own 10-8 gun using a pre-series II Kimber as a base gun.
Congrats to you. I would love a 10-8 springfield, and would kill for a full house Yam gun. He really makes very nice 1911's.

Hilton is a friend he makes rock hard guns that run and are functional as hell
he is a good dude,
coming from a guy on a local forum...

Blact T is only done one place and its not Springfield Custom.
They send their Pros out for that, as well as their special orders.
There's a lot I don't know so someone tell me how the slide release comes out without a slide notch in the "Alpha" concept above? Is the slide lock notch and release notch the same?
the notch is still there, you just can't see it too well since the slide has a bevelled edge.
Man I need to get my eyes examined. That is the most precise machining I've ever seen. Even enlarged 400% I can't see the notch. I thought there was a new system on the 100 year old design.
the notch is lost in the shadow. you can see it though
Looks good. Although I'm not a rail guy unless the intended purpose for the weapon requires it, that's a good looking application.
As an aside, has any one heard of S L Sports Custom? I was shooting a qualification course today with a green suiter and he casually mentions that he has one on order - should have it in 4-6 months. Not wanting to appear like a firearms Philistine, I nodded sagely just like I knew WTF he was talking about, but in truth, not a clue, how about you?

Ha! Ha! We're in the midst of a recession with tens of thousands out of work, surely some of them comediennes and you go doing that.

Huh? :dunno:
OK comedians, small joke (very small). It's a 1911, not a German Autobahn burner. He was going on about how this guy crafts special extractors and makes ejectors from Kryptonite or something.
