View Full Version : First HK, Now SIG Sauer Dropping 357SIG?

Hands down my favorite caliber is 357SIG and my EDC is a Glock 32. I own 3 Sigs in 357 also. HK has stopped production of all 357SIG pistols. Now SIG Sauer USA has stated that SIG Of Germany, their barrel supplier, has ceased all production of that caliber. At first SIG USA was seeking another barrel maker or was considering to make the barrels in their Exeter plant. Now the word is ceased production.

What gives here? Sig has several federal LE contracts and every day I hear of new agencies, individual officers, and shooters adopting the 357SIG round. Slow, but steady numbers that all add up. I called Glock USA and was told that they will continue to produce 357SIG pistols with no thought what so ever of dropping the caliber. That was good to hear. Bill

It's hard to believe that they would drop a round with such great potential to be the leading law enforcement round in the world. If it's true, it's a typical knucklehead marketing decison to hand all future law enforcment contracts for .357 Sig over to Glock.

I didn't have any luck finding links to support this.

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

Kinda hard to believe myself. I love that round also and think it's a bad decision if this is true.

^^^ Troll ^^^

Where the hell do you come up with this s***? I called HK and they told me this is not true. The 357SIG caliber will remain in production in their P2000/P2000SK line of pistols. I can't find any evidence to corroborate your FUD.

People in the industry are saying all major gun makers are ceasing production of 9mm, 40 and 45 barrels.

I called SIG and HK, personally. They both claim they are not discontinuing anything in 357SIG except HK's USP series. HK will continue to make 357SIG in their P2000 series. I looked at the SIG forum, "ecitizen" is the guy who claims his FFL can't get 357SIG pistols anymore. ecitizen is either BS'ing or his FFL in a moron.

Thanks for clarifying ... :nailbiting: It's going to be a awhile before I can afford a .357 Sig and I'm going to have to get by with a conversion barrel for now. .... Whenever the budget is available for that and the reloading dies.

well i wouldn't go and accuse the OP of being a troll just for posting something he's seen in other forums. we all know what kind of information is out there to find, some accurate and some not so much. i'm sure he was just trying to confirm what he's read somewhere else, no need to flame or get overly sensitive.

if there is any truth to this, i guess the secret service will either be adopting glocks, or a different caliber. either way, as long as glock doesn't have any plans of stopping production on the 357 models i'm happy.

Thanks Mrs_Esterhouse and no problem. I should have phrased my post as more of questions and see how it might not read well. I have heard of and received conflicting information from the factory reps lately and seems each person you call has different information. I will call SIG and HK again. Bill

Sarge - thanks for posting this. The Internet gives us a big advantage on checking out any rumors that we hear.

We can all do our own research and then compare notes.

It is now the #2 caliber used by State Police agencies, behind the .40 S&W of course. The .357 Sig is used by the State Troopers of:

Delaware
Virginia
New Mexico
Rhode Island
Tennessee
North Carolina
Texas

The Caliber is also used by The

US Secret Service
Federal Air Marshals

The PA game commission switched to The 357sig several years ago...

I called and spoke with someone at SIG. They informed me that barrels were "Hard to get from Germany in 357SIG" and that they are "running short on them" and that they are planning to "Begin producing them in America".

BTW, the FAMs just adopted SIG's P250 in that caliber. (were using P229 before). How stupid would it be to throw that contract away?

My phone-call concluded that:

357SIG barrels are kinda hard to get, which explains why noone has them in stock.
Plans are in place to fix this situation.
No 357SIG chamberings will be dropped, except that that P226 Elite ST is not "officially" offered in this caliber, although I got mine a few months ago. They do batches...

The point remains, SIG would be really REALLY off their rocker to give up all their contracts for this product.

I'd get a G31. Why? I would want to take every advantage I could get with this caliber in producing sick velocity. Glock has some "fast" barrels due to the polygonal rifling.

You are the 3rd or 4th person to post this on just the forums I am on. No telling how many others ask it, lol. SIG needs to issue a public statement. I guess it's really their fault for claiming to be a rifle company that just happens to build pistols.

Not to resurrect an old thread but don't you look like an A.

S&W and HK have both discontinued the 357sig models. Glock will be taking over the LE contracts, Sig some LE but mostly Federal contracts.

I thought it was pretty well known at this point that HK was eliminating 357 Sig for general sales. This is not new news, it's several years old. I think HK will sell you 357 Sigs by "special order" but that doesn't mean you can walk down to your FFL and order one.

Try finding any mention of it on their web site.

http://hk-usa.com/product/pistols/

This is all they say:

http://hk-usa.com/hk-models/usp-compact/

The HK USP Compact is a small frame pistol capable of firing the most powerful cartridges in 9 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and .357 SIG (by special order).

_The_Shadow
11-05-2014, 08:31
One thing that is pressing is the FBI's and many Law Enforcement agencies are switching back to the 9mm...http://concealednation.org/2014/10/fbi-decides-on-9mm-as-their-1-choice-and-have-tons-of-science-behind-their-decision/

So I would suspect to see the 357Sig ammo become a little less abundant in the future. I don't think it will go away anytime soon, just that there will be new contracts for 9mm ammo and guns.

silversport
11-06-2014, 05:56
I'd bet those departments that picked the 357 SIG for performance (real or imagined) will stay with the 357 SIG while departments that are trying to protect the bottom line will switch to the 9mm...

...of course in the mix there will always be exceptions but I don't see the change in caliber being an across the board change as for many of us, "this a'int our first rodeo..."
