I REALLY like this pistol. I haven't bought any 45 defensive ammo in a while, so what's the consensus on the best thing out there for a 3.78" barrel?

Mine loves Speer Gold Dot, in 200+p and 230. If you can find an assortment, get a few boxes and try some... that's what I did. I could feel the difference in a few brands, but never had a misfire or ejection problem. Just more accurate with these. Enjoy, you will love it!

I also haven't shot any defensive ammo yet, but after researching decided to go with the Gold Dot.

I like federal premium 165 gr hydra-shok jhp low recoil I've shot 250 rds with out a problem. The only ammo i have every had a problem with is WWB fmj. It eats anything else i feed it.

Picked up a box of Winchester Silvertips (185gr) and Remington Golden Sabres (don't remember what grain, but not +P). I'll try them out tomorrow.

With over 9000 rounds through my 36 I have tried just about everything out there.
I always shoot a box of high quality modern self defense ammo every time I go to the range.
I keep track of the targets I use for this stuff (carry) and compare notes on the tightness of the groups and how close it is to point of aim.
It's a never ending, time consuming process that shows me what ammo shoots well or not out of my carry guns.
So far my 36 likes the Corbon 185g +P DPX better than anything else.
My 21SF has gone from the 230g +P Gold Dots to the Winchester PDX1 also in 230g.

Winchester 185 Grain Silver Tips are top. Check ballistics & gelatin tests. My G36 eats them well.

Congrats. You chose a great, and often overlooked, defensive pistol. + here on Winchester Bonded PDX 230 gr JHP.

Congrats!

Mine loves her Winchester Ranger Ts in JHP, and in FMJ, she likes all except WWB 230 gr., any other practice brands have been just fine. She's accurate...even with the cheap stuff!!

Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel in my G 36. Also use Short Barrel ammo in my G 26, and in my J frames.
