I am looking at a Ruger LCR with crimson trace laser grips. I have never owned a Ruger before always bought Smith and Wesson. I have also looked at the Smith mod. 642. If any of you have the new LCR I would like to know how you like it and how it compares with the 642 if you know.
Thanks for any info.

I own & carry both an LCR and a 642. They are both very capable. Flip a coin.

I'd buy the 642 but that's just me..
I will also tell you to go to S&Ws website & have a look at the Bodygaurd 38 series of new new snubbies that look pretty good too..

NOTE: The grip how it comes up higher on the frame, were the cylinder release latch is, the laser & intergrated aluminum & polymer parts that are very much like the LCR..

I just picked up a new LCR on Friday. It is my first revolver, so I can not compare it in actual shooting to the Smiths. I have been pocket carrying the LCR in a Desantis Nemesis holster. It is amazing how light and easy it is to carry in the pocket.

Some have said that the larger hogue grip makes it harder to pocket carry. Personally, I have not had a problem in the few different pants and shorts I have used.

Also, my understanding from research is the LCR trigger pull is quite a bit lighter (around 8.5 lbs) than the Smith J-frames.

Thanks for you information. I went to a gunshop today and compared the LCR to a Smith 642, side by side. The LCR won. It is lighter in weight, the trigger is lighter and much smoother. I compared the standard grip on the LCR to the crimson trace laser grip. I chose the CT even though the standard grip seemed to be a little larger and softer. I watched a few video's on the CT grip and thought I would try one.
Thanks again for all of your input.

My wife had a 642, but after she looked at a LCR she traded right then. The trigger on the LCR is so much better than the 642. She also said she doesn't think the recoil is as bad with the LCR. I think that has to do with the grip. From what I've read it has a strip of neoprene in the backstap.

I had the same choice.
The feel and trigger pull of the LCR convinced me.

My LCR gets carried. My 642 hangs on a peg in the safe. Guess which one I like better....

Curious as to which holsters you use? Thanks!
