Jude Javier Takes Retro Div. Title at ICORE Regional

LOS OSOS, Calif. — On Saturday, Jude Javier of Santa Clara, Calif. claimed the Retro division title in San Luis Obispo, Calif. at the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE (http://www.icore.org/)) 13th Annual Southwest Regional Revolver Championship.

Sponsored by legendary firearms maker Smith & Wesson, the Southwest Regional drew over 90 top revolver competitors from throughout the Golden State as well as Arizona and Nevada, to compete for titles in ICORE’s Open, Limited and Retro divisions.

Despite winning only one of the eight stages, Javier managed to come from behind on the fifth stage and held the lead through the remaining three to finish in first place among the retro shooters with a final score of 293.42.

Just 4.51 points behind in second place was Rex Jones of Garden Grove, Calif. who won two stages and finished the match shooting a total of 297.93. Third place went to John Maxwell of Newbury Park, Calif. who also won two stages in the Retro division race and finished with a score of 319.65.

Rounding out the top five were Cedric Yoshimura of Los Angeles, Calif. who took top honors on two stages and finished with 322.98, and Nelson Dymond of San Luis Obispo, Calif. with 333.87, finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.

The only other stage win, which occurred on the first stage of the match, went to Kevin Arquette of Phoenix, Ariz. who ultimately fell to seventh place in the Retro division.

The ICORE 13th Annual Southwest Regional Revolver Championship was the second in a series of six regional events sponsored by Smith & Wesson. The next regional events are scheduled for the first weekend in May when both the New England and Rocky Mountain Revolver Regional will take place.

About ICORE: The International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) was founded in 1991 by Mike and Sharon Higashi, long time active shooters in all the handgun sports. Envisioned as an alternative to the "arms race" that was occurring in the other action shooting sports at that time, a revolver-only competition would allow even the most basic equipment to be used and still provide enjoyment and satisfaction.
