Well, the guy's a retired USMC gunnery sergeant. Why would he like a communist-era piece of )!(&^)(!! ?

Bet he'll go to bed with an M14 any day...

THIS IS MY RIFLE! THERE ARE MANY OTHERS LIKE IT, BUT THIS ONE IS MINE!!
I MUST MASTER MY RIFLE AS I MASTER MY LIFE!
MY RIFLE AND I ARE THE DEFENDERS OF MY COUNTRY!

BTW, do watch R Lee Ermey's Lock and Load series. History channel, every Tuesday night at 8 pm (Phils time). It's replayed every Saturday night at 11. Great stuff.

He is an Honorary Gunnery Sergeant and graduated from UP yes University of the Philippines.

I had the honor of shaking his hand during an LAPD/Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Oooops my fingers were faster than my brain. I meant UM. Maybe because my mind drifted in 1970's while visiting a girl in Ilang-Ilang or Sampaguita can't remember which dorm now.:rofl:

I hear he has lingering trouble with his left arm (reinjured in '87)
That he can shoot well at all, is what matters. ;)

BTW, Ermey appeared in a bunch of Filipino movies.
I'd love to find the few that predated Full Metal Jacket.

It's easier to find his Australian-Philippine (EFMC) movie gigs,
such as "The Siege Of Firebase Gloria" with Robert Arevalo
and Wings Hauser... hehe

He was one of the helicopter pilots in Apocalypse Now. That part where they raided the Vietnamese village by the sea.

i think his AK sentiment is a bit tongue in cheek, even the "test" they conducted was accompanied by wink wink nudge comments.

Here he is driving a Vietnam-era M50 Ontos:

He advised Louis Gossett Jr. for the latter's role in An Officer and a Gentleman.

I have been told that "Gunny" was nominated for an award for "FMJ". The awards committee rejected the idea because Ermey was not playing the role of a DI but in fact was actually performing his duties as a Marine DI.
