View Full Version : Zero Tolerance ZT300 series.
Looking a a new ZT300 for my everyday carry and to use on duty. I can't decide between the plain and partial serration version..... I have always carried a blade with partial serration, but am kind of leaning toward the plain blade on this one. Talk me into one or the other!
EDIT FOR DUTY CLARIFICATION: I'm a Warrant officer in the Army and a Pilot. I also no longer fly Blackhawks (as my username states) but I now fly army fixed wing (airplanes) RC-12s. So not doing any hardcore stuff but normal use in a harsh environment, and looking for a good reliable multi-use blade.
when u say duty im guessing your an officer. Im only 21 but i recommend getting the zt plain edge and a fully serrated blade by spyderco. I like a fully plain edge or a fully serrated, not in between.http://spyderco.com/pix/products/large/C12G_L.jpg

I guess I should have explained duty a little better. I'm a Warrant officer in the Army and a Pilot. I also no longer fly Blackhawks (as my username states) but I now fly army fixed wing (airplanes) RC-12s. So not doing any hardcore stuff but normal use in a harsh environment.
A lot of people like plain edge for one specific reason... as a user, you will need to resharpen the blade. And with a plain edge, you can do that yourself easier than with serrations.
People say that a sharp plain edge can do the same job as a serrated blade. I think serrations take the edge (hah, pun alert) when the plain edge blade starts to become dull.
And to be perfectly honest, you can't go wrong with either decision. Those zero tolerance knives are built like a tank.
Keep in mind that the 0300's are HUGGGGE and I cannot close it with one hand. The 0350's are more my size and are quicker to open since it is smaller but still robust.
I did a review on the ZT 0300's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXPhkfYskbY

FWIW I own and carry a ZT0350 with plain edge. While it's not my favorite EDC it is a very well built knife and one I would trust a lot. A ZT0300 would be a great choice. As has already been mentioned the PE allows for easier resharpening which is key when your talking about a daily user. Go with the plain edge!
The 0300 are a beast of a knife for sure. Every bit as good as a Strider. PE is the only way to go with this particular knife. The recurve can be tricky to sharpen but that s30v keeps a keen edge.
Don't really have anything to add to this thread, except that I've been lusting after a ZT 302 for a while now. Wish there was a 352.
I just ordered a ZT 350 that will be my edc to got with my G26.
I'd recommend a plain edge. As a couple of people have mentioned, PE's are much easier to sharpen and, more importantly, cut as well or better than a combo edge or serrated edge if you maintain them.
And they look better, too!
