One of my good friends saw my new DPMS AR and now wants a Colt AR15 w/20" barrel. He wants a fixed or removable handle but it must have a 20" barrel.

Where to get one?

I was just looking for one too. What I heard is that they are only making the 20 inch A3 (flat top) without a flash suppressor (just a comp) and no bayonet lug. None of that bothers me, but it isn't going to work for service competitions. I have a 6520, so right now so I am going to hold out and wait for an older 20 inch colt. Basically, I think if you want a new gun, the Rock River might be an easier way to go and for about $100 less. Otherwise, find a used colt.

Check ar15.com ee section (equipment exchange) they are sold from time to time. I had one recently that I traded to a buddy.

www.budsgunshop.com, has a Colt HBAR 20" barrel for $1,036.
and that's with shipping. MT6700 has the removable handle.
Check the website and click on Colt rifles for others. They
have pretty good prices and are good to deal with.

All the major manufactures make 20" A2 style AR15's.

Right now the 16" M4's are all the rage because that is what our troops use. But any half way decent gun shop should be able to find you a 20" A2.

I'd ask your friend if he plans on hunting with it or bench shooting because the hbar 20" is a heavy gun. I own a hbar and it's great for match shooting or rested shooting but sucks for walking in the woods. He might like a govt profile 20", and in all honestly you don't lose much with a 16", which makes a wonderful carry around rifle.

Not ALL Troops are carrying M4s. There are MANY with 20" M16A2's.

I had a Colt HBar w/compensator; it was too damn heavy to be much fun to carry or shoot offhand. I had ADCO turn it to Government Profile and ad an A2 flashider. They will do a bayo lug gas block as well, tho' I didn't feel the need.
That's another route to go if your bud is determined to have a Colt. The neutered HBars aren't in huge demand, so he may find a bargain, even allowing for ADCO's work, and if it isn't too much heresy modding a Colt.

HBar on a 20" will be heavier than it needs to be. A standard A2/gov't profile is what he SHOULD have.
