First question, what is a "good" price for a good condition Remington 870 Police Magnum, assume it's bone stock.

Second, for HD/3 gun is an 870P overkill? What's the big benefit over say, a Wingmaster or Tactical?

Thanks!

$400-500 for a really good condition 870P should be possible.

The regular home defense 870 would probably be fine, but if you can swing it the Police guns are really nice and hold there value.

Otherwise spend the $350 on the home defense and the rest on ammo and range time.

$400-500 was the range I was hoping for. Does getting original wood furniture (I know, I probably need synthetic for a light and such) change the price much?

I bought a brand new 870 police with extension, bead sight and synthetic furniture for $584 tax. Shop around.

The Express, 870P & WingMaster are basically the same shotguns. The only real differences are the machining is nicer on the 870P & WM receivers, fit and finish, machined extractor and a few extra power springs that make very little difference.

The Tactical models are Express shotguns with a few extras.

I've checked all the local shops time and time again, none of 'em ever have an 870P.

Good info, thanks!

The 870P is still a one rung up the ladder of QC/craftsmanship than the Wingmaster, correct?

The 870P is a WM. They are one in the same basically.

What are the minute differences?

Talk to this man:

http://www.aiptactical.com/Tactical_II.html

He'll build you an 870 better than a police model with all the goodies for not much more than it would take to put it together yourself.

My Tactical 2 is a beaut.

Interesting, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the info!
