Is there anybody on Glock talk that actully owns (1) gun? C'mon nobody here does that. Thats just dumb.

I feel its more realistic if a man has only one rifle, one shotgun and one handgun. That makes more sense when talking to gun guys.

it's getting to the point he's damn near posting "Should I eat a double order of scrambled eggs for breakfast???" "Post pics of what you would have for breakfast in stead of a double order of scrambled eggs"

If you don't like a post then don't respond to it.

Now to answer the question. HD is close quarters and there is only one answer for any close quarters gun fight. That is a pump shotgun.

Long action transitional M&P (pre model 10 .38 special) round butted and gun-bubba'd.

I can point shoot one, and am too darned old and too chintzy to spend thousands building superior skills with another handgun.

At 56 I still win sucker bets.. ;) I'm good to go.

Aaaaaaaaand, for the doubtful amongst us, I got to GT with one gun, a 6" barrel Model 19-3 P&R 3T..

Which is my favorite gun I hardly ever shoot these days, cause I've bought several I shoot better or that are more fun, in several years here.

But everybody starts somewhere, I disposed of ALL guns for some years during a bitter custody dispute, as legal insurance against claims of misbehavior with same. I ain't sorry, neither, it was cheap at the price to have control over my childrens safety and living conditions.

Not to mention, lawyers, good ones anyway, ain't cheap. So if you really ONLY had one gun, my heartiest advice is have the one you SHOOT best.

or you're an idjit.

I guess if i had to pick it would be the pump shotgun of choice.

David Armstrong
04-19-2010, 11:56
It should be the gun that you are most familiar and competent with. Different guns may dictate different tactics. For me that choice used to be a Beretta 1201-FP. Nowadays it is an M1 Carbine due to injuries. I would feel comfortable with any of my revolvers or autoloading pistols or an Ar-15 or a Winchester 94.

I've had times in my life where a suppressed .22 was my home defense gun.

There was another time in my life when the only gun I had in my home was a Single Shot TC Contender in .45 Colt.

Basically I'll make do with what I got for home defense.

I'd have a tough time choosing between a 12 ga pump action shotgun and a 4" medium frame .357 magnum though.

I agree.
Rifle-AR-15 5.56

Pistol-H&K USP .45ACP

Hypothetical question? OK I’ll play. If I did not have my (2) 38’s my (2) Glock 40’s my (2) tactical 12 gauge shotguns and this is for home defense at a killing distance of 20 to 25 feet. Wow, I would feel very confident with my 7+1 Mossberg 930 SPX 12 gauge loaded with 00 buck. Over 600 shells feed though it with 0 malfunctions. I almost forgot my little NAA 22 mag. My get off me gun.

what's a get off me gun exactly?

Its usually a very tiny gun that you can access if you get into a fight that has you in a clinch or grappled on the ground...you take said tiny gun....shove it into the belly or ribs of your attacker and pull the trigger...forcing him to understand that he needs to "GET OFF YOU" so to speak.

While it may not be a man stopper, a tiny caliber will penetrate decently enough at extreme close distances (i.e shoved 3 inches into an abdomen)

Some call them mouse guns, or pocket guns, boot gun or die 3 days later guns, or some other creative name referring to what a tiny gun can do?

The same could be said about your comment...

You're at home. What's the need for rifle range and rifle penetration?
You trying to kill some neighbors by "accident?" :tongueout:
Or were you thinking HD against zombies or hordes of Obamatrons trying to steal all your weapons? I still think the 12Gauge is best suited for the HD role when it comes down to HD against a burglar, murderer, rapist ect.
But if we're talking zombies or Nazis or Nazi zombies or Obamatrons then I will have to agree with you. :tongueout: Then again an AK variant in 7.62 might be a more reasonable option for those living in humid woodsie type environments.

Agreed.

Also, 00 buck will penetrate drywall and other home materials just as easily as a 5.56. I'd rather have 1 bullet that I know where it's going than 9 BB's that may or may not strike the target.

This is true but BB's don't fly through eight walls and into through the neighbors window. BB's tend to slow down much faster. Not to mention that #1 doesn't penetrate walls as much as the 00 buck will.

That is one of those nice urban semi-myths. 00 Buck will penetrate drywall, etc. just as easily as SOME 5.56 rounds. SOME 5.56 rounds will penetrate a lot more drywall, etc. than 00 Buck.

Don't get me wrong, in general, I use and prefer my AR15 for self defense at home, but if I could only have one...

As for calling the cops, I don't call the cops unless I know there is danger (and I have time). Not just for the random bumps in the night. I prefer to attack the problem. Most common criminals (at least in my experience) don't lure people out and ambush them (although it does happen and it is something to be aware of).

If I think someone broke the window out of my car, I am gonna check it out, not just sit back and call the cops. That's me.

My Mossberg 590 is my HD gun. Pistol is a backup. AR is in the closet, but the Mossy is always primary HD.

My wish, however, is for my 20" Mossberg to be a 14" barrel SBS. But, my Indiana doesn't allow short-barreled shotguns (but SBR's are okay...), so I'm okay with mine just the way it is.

As far as ammo. I have 9 shells of 00 Buck in the tube/chamber + 5 1oz slugs on the stock.

My Rem 870 tactical loaded with 000 buckshot & slugs in the saddle. Added bonus is that Obama might allow us to keep shotguns when he is re-elected and gets to nominate another anti-2nd amendment judge to replace a conservative judge, so get used to defending your abode with your shotgun my friends...

If it has to be a pistol then I would go with either a G35 or my M&P 40 Pro. Both have long slides for greater accuracy and can fire 40s&w, 357sig or 9mm with a barrel change. I'm down with that homey (Do they still say that? Is that now considered racist? Is polyester still ok for pants? Am I the only one still listening to an 8 tract player? Is the bus stop still danced at the local discotheque & dance halls?)

Glock 34/17, but if we are talking a little more hairy situation, I guess a reliable suppressed SBR AR-15 in 300 BLK with supersonic ammunition would have to do. Realistically with kids around and the wife not practicing as much as I would like, the S&W 19-5 stays loaded with CT grips and 38 special 135 grain GDs and plenty of speed strips and speed loaders laying in the gun vault. If I lived alone, my house would probably be a hidden weapon paradise.
