View Full Version : new sig 238
i just took my new sig 238 to the range....what a piece of ****.....in 50 rounds i had numerous ftf, would not eject, would not feed, 3 misfires,,, i had a range instructor come over and he looked over the gun...the same happened to him. i took it back and after haggling they took it back and charged me a 10% restocking fee...i have a 220 and a 229. not one problem with either of them. love them both. stay farrrrrr awayyyy from the 238
Sorry for the loss and understand the trust factor, but you could have sent it back to Sig.
i could have but with this many problems i don't even want to deal with this lemon.....couldn't be happier with my other sigs

So sorry to hear that. I guess I'm a little luckier? Had, maybe 3, failure to loads out of about 100 rounds.
Did have one extract get wedged in PERFECTLY as the gun recycled, which was freaky weird..........
That gun didn't appeal to me from day one.

Thats to bad.
That gun didn't appeal to me from day one.
Same here bac, I'll keep my flawless shooting $300 bersa thunder 380 conceal carry.
A very well known Sig armorer wrote a lengthy article on the P238 whereby he explained the basic geometry of the gun is not conducive to reliability.
I find it's usually a good idea to conduct research before making a purchase. ;)
now you tell me!!!!!
I believe in your prior thread on this topic, it was an impulse buy. :)
it was but since i have a sig 220 carry and a sig 229 i should get a pass for buying the 238 on impulse:embarassed:

Especially with a pocket gun as expensive as that little POS.

Yeah, if I wanted a pecker-pistol, I'd look at a Seecamp.

my 238 has never had any prob several hundred rounds so far and amazing accuracy
Thanks for the heads up guys. I have bought guns before because they got a great review in a magazine. I learned the hard way not to trust these reviews. (A 1911 that didnt work) I just read a great review on the SIG p238 by Massad Ayoob so I figured it HAD to be good. I'm not gonna fall for it twice. Hell, just a few months ago I read an article talking up the Hi Point 45. It said "if youre on a budget, this gun goes boom every time". I had a friend with a Hi Point 45 and we got at LEAST 1 malfunction per magazine. Sometimes 2 or 3. And I was all ready to buy a p238. Thanks for the reality check you guys!!

I think that SIG blew it on the P238. The market is full of affordable, light weight and outstanding pocket .380's such as the P38t, LCP and the Bersa. The P238 is expensive and too heavy.
they took back my p238 and charged me a 10% restocking fee.....worst gun i ever shot. my p220 best gun i ever shot...love my 229 also...today i am going to buy a glock 36 and carry it with a belly band...
sorry to hear about that. I had 6 FTfeed's in the first 50 rounds I put through my 238. after that I haven't havd any problems at all.

To think that Guns and Ammo magazine gave a glowing review of "Sigs Six Pack" of 238's.
Anything for advertisement income I guess.

I've had no problems with mine, with a couple hundreds rounds through it.

Mine did pretty good for the first 300 plus rounds, then it began not extracting or extracting half way and not ejecting.
I just tried it again a few minutes ago.
First 6 rounds were OK.
Half way through the second magazine the fired case was extracted half way out and jammed tight by the next round in the magazine. This seems to be a common problem with the gun. I gave up and shot my new Beretta PX4 sub compact.
Also I don't know what's going on with the trigger. It is so hard to pull I checked a couple times to see if the safety was on. My finger actually hurts after firing just 13 rounds.
I'm beginning to wonder about SIG.
I bought a Mosquito for a 22 plinker. Stinker.
The SIG 522 is having problems.
Now the P238 appears to have some design flaws and is unreliable for it's intended job.
SIG has moved up to the top of my do not buy list.
that's why i returned mine and bought a glock 36...love it.....but i alsolove my sig 220 and 229 but its a glock 36 for concealed carry for me
I have a 238SAS with about 600 rounds of all types through it with 2 or 3 FTF in the first 50 rounds and not a single problem since then. It will feed from the sig magazine as well as the couple of colt mustang mags I have. Excellent sights, and even a decent trigger. I guess you have made your choice, but I think I would have sent it to sig before I returned it and took a 10% beating on it.
