I have one and love it. It carries great. In this picture it has a set of VZ Bobtail grips on it...It now sports a pair of Wilson thin grigs. The only complaint I have is that it does not like Winchester Ranger 230g which is my preferred carry round. It has no issues with Speer Gold Dot 230g, which is what I carry in this specific pistol. I also will put a long, solid trigger on it one of these days. I don't care for the medium trigger.

While it looks nice, I don't care for aluminum 1911s, except for my carry gun.

I am pretty much in agreement.....I bought this strictly for ccw when I want to carry a full size 1911. The difference in weight is quite noticeable and the rounded butt is a nice touch. It is strictly a niche pistol, but serves that niche well, in my opinion......But it is not inexpensive.

Frankly, I'm not going to buy a carry gun that's so expensive. I'm afraid I'll obsess over every little scratch, every little bit of holster wear. Further, in the back of my mind, I think about what will happen if I have to use it for a self-defense situation. Police evidence techs don't exactly treat these sorts of things well. I'd rather have to replace a $500 Glock than a $3k premium 1911 (knock it down to $1500 and you might see some interest from me). I've got my Kimber CDP compact that fills the bill. It's the only 1911 I have that has an aluminum frame.

If I was ever in the situation where I had to use it to defend myself/family, I could care less about how much money I had into it....but I do understand the point your making. The difference in comfort and accuracy from the Wilson Ultralight Carry compared to my Glocks is my deciding factor....not how much the pistol cost. If that were the only factor, I could be carrying a Kel-Tec or Raven.

Everybody fixates on that statement when I make it. I'm sure there will be a few more along short who will say the same thing. I don't really give a rat's hairy hindquarters about how much money I spent on the gun. Simple fact is that I don't shoot all that much better with my Wilson than I do with a Glock 21, 23, or 19. It's a difference of - maybe - a quarter inch. If I was consistantly shooting one hole groups with the Wilson and my Glock targets looked like I was using a shotgun, then that Wilson would be on my hip and maybe I'd give a more serious look at the new offering, though that's nearly a year of car payment.:shocked: As it is, they all go into the 10-ring at defensive shooting ranges. Most of my Glocks, so far, have been far more accurate than internet legend. I approach it from a cold scientific viewpoint, nothing more, nothing less.

FWIW, I have taken on the economic challenge of "high-end" CCW a little at a time.

Here is the Basic Breakdown:

ca. 1980

(Slightly) Used Galesi .25 Auto, ca. 1965 - Not a bad gun actually, except, of course, for caliber. In fact, pretty high build quality.

All of $60 (Retail), too.........And I still had to lay it away.

ca. 1985

Detonics .45 Combat Master (that worked and still does, thanks to 'luck' and good up-keep)

ca. 1995

S&W Revolver Mode (pre-lock models only, and almost solely J-frames)

Not sure, but I think no explanation is really necessary.

ca. 2005 -2010

G26. Sorry (sort of), but it works. YMMV, of course.

I rarely carry a full-size gun, so getting a LW frame isn't necessary for me, and I like the heft of a standard frame and slide for the range.

The EMP is still a officer size frame with regards to lenght. The Wilson is shorter. My Mrs is really small.

I meant the height of the gun. I am sure the height of the EMP was taken without the mag in, as was the WC.

But for .2 of a inch difference there is over a 2k dollar price increase. I'd just have to have the mags done on the EMP, MSH rounded, checkered front strap, and different sights.

I'm not a huge Wilson fan, but that this is a fantastic looking carry gun. While I normally carry an all steel 1911, a lighter version that doesn't give up much/any shootability sounds intriguing. I like it. The price is high, but it has a lot of custom touches on it.
