Okay guys/gals I really need your help. I am looking for a used Apple laptop for around $500.00, is this price too low? Remember you are talking to the town idiot when it comes to computers, I have never used a Mac and want to make the switch.

I thought I would start off with a laptop and see how I like it. I don't do a hell of a lot on a computer, it would be for searching the web, a little photo stuff. That is about it, I know nothing about Gig or ram so just think you are talking to a Six year old.

I say Six because a Seven year old would kick my ass with stuff like this.

Thanks,

Paulie

Check Ebay for what they're selling for.

Here is the problem, I don't know what the hell I am looking at. Notebook, Powerbook, Macbook. I am a virgin when it comes to this stuff, I am thinking of just going to the Apple store and buy a new one.

Are these any good? Are they worth the asking price?

Not very familiar w/ Apple products, but looking at the specs of those laptops, they look like they will be fairly old. $500, to me.. seems very unrealistic for a Mac, but I have very limited experience with them...

So you're ready for an OS switch? What model laptop do you use now? I might have some suggestions. :whistling:

Ok... Do you have any other specs on the machine or a model #? Processor speed, hard drive space, memory, graphics device, etc.. if you don't know, that's cool..

Why exactly are you wanting to switch to the Mac, I guess is my main question.

Mine is the 14" model.

I use a PC at home also. I am tired of the B.S. Microsoft stuff, I guess I want to try something new.

Good luck on changing Paulie's mind, once he commits to something their is no going back. You might not have 30 minutes he is probably at the store buying a Mac now.

Mac people often over-value their property, even if it's used up, busted out pieces of crap they still want top dollar for it. For a current model macbook, expect to pay around $700. For the pro model, it's closer to $1000 or for the macbook air, expect it to be around $1200 used. In my opinion this is top dollar you should expect to pay in like-new condition.

As a long time Mac user, don't get anything other than a MacBook. That'll be the Intel powered laptop and will be the one with the best level of support going forward. A bargain's not a bargain if you can't use it.

You could almost get by with an iPad.

Oh, and don't let these PC idiots try and change your mind. :)

May I ask what you mean by this? Because some things can't be fixed by an OS switch.

heh...ah MS ain't all that bad. Having said that, I did spend about 3 hours yesterday playing with Ubuntu on Virtual Box...heh. With many more hours to come I might finally make a permanent switch.

10.04 is solid... it's the best release so far I think... Although some say they are going to make some extreme efforts w/ the next version because it will be "10.10"(perfect 10).... We'll see...

Well, if you are going to learn a new OS might I suggest Ubuntu Linux.
Here's a brand new Dell with Ubuntu already installed for $439 but I would suggest you up the ram to 2 gigs.

Or if you want a bigger display this one comes with NO OS but trust me Ubuntu is cake to get installed on this system.

We've got a dual core Macbook in the store running Vista for only 229.00 .

1GM Ram, 80GB HD. I'm tempted myself.
