Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135 grain 38 +P
Exactly. And the 125 grain +P Gold Dots if I run low on the 135's.

I still like the old school 158grLSWCHP+P loads in a snub.

I found the 135gr GD don't shoot well in my SP101- if they shoot good in your pistol that would be my load. The 125 gr GD is my choice in 38sp! Also the 110 gr GD are a good choice for summer carry!

I started a thread on this not too long ago.

Almost everyone recommended to me the Speer 135gr. +P Short-Barrel so that's mainly what I have switched to over the 125gr. +P load. Another round strongly suggested was the Corbon DPX 110gr. +P.

A round I really like is the Win. PDX-1 130gr. +P, which I find to be surprisingly controllable for a +P load.

I was going to suggest the Speer 135 grain Gold Dot +P but since you already have the CorBon DPX I think you have it covered as long as you are happy with their performance in your gun. If not try the Speer 135 +P or the 158 grain LSWHP +P.

+1. I picked up a case of the Federal stuff some time ago. The 158 shoots more to the point of aim for me in the snubby, over the lighter bullet offerings.

I dislike the blast/recoil of .38sp +p in short barreled guns, esp. snubs.

That said, I carry the aforementioned 135gr GDHP (on duty backup), mainly because I've run it in tests and seen it bust a windshield, expand well, and still do 12".

If barrier performance isn't a concern, I prefer a standard pressure load. The 158gr Hornady XTP shoots pretty soft, and still goes deep (it actually does pretty well on most barriers). The 148gr wadcutter is a cheap, accurate, soft shooting load that has adequate penetration for my taste and it allows me to carry and practice with identical products.

I used to like the 125gr Nyclad (designed for snubs); seemed to expand well and go jusssst deep enough. It was discontinued and recently re-introduced haven't tried the new version yet.

I'd honestly like to see Winchester load a 125 or 158gr Partition Gold pill in .38sp....the 9mm version they had a while back was a soft accurate shooter and still expanded from my little "poodle nines".

It's pretty rare for one bullet to stand out in a caliber, considering the vast number of good choices these days. The Winchester Ranger 127 grain +P+ 9mm is one example. This Speer Gold Dot 135 grain +P seems to be the .38 Special equivalent. There are some other loads that are as good or even a bit better in specific areas, but nothing that is better across the board. It's an impressive load.
