View Full Version : Heavy bullets in 357 sig?
Is there any companies that make a heavier bullet than 150 grains? I reload and am looking for anything heavier than 165 grains. I want to put a suppressor on my G-31 and want more than 147-150 grains to load at around 1000 fps. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brandon.

Now I'm by no means an expert or anthing close but.................
A 357. sig is a 40. necked down to 9mm, right?
The heaviest bullet I've ever seen in 9mm is 147 gr.(subsonic)
This doesn't mean that a heavier one doesn't exist.
From my understanding of the 357. sig, is that "they" wanted to move a 9mm faster than the original loading.
If you want to suppress something, it's going to have to be going slower than the speed of sound.(no matter how much it weighs)
Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will chime in.
And by the way, there's a place on this board called the "Caliber Corner", that may be a better place to get answers to this type of question.
Just trying to be helpful.

It think there might be an Israeli .355 caliber 159 grain bullet, but the heaviest common 9mm bullet is the 147; that's what I load in my 9mm subsonics.
I would likt to find more about the 159? grain bullet if you know where I could look for it. Thanks, Brandon.

Actually, I guess it was a 158 gr. Here's details on the IMI 9mm load:

I don't know about just buying bullets. I couldn't find anything with a cursory search. The 147gr stuff is only 7% lighter and very easy to come by.

Like someone else said earlier, check if the round can be loaded subsonic or not. Karl.:)

A friend had a 9mm Powder Springs Ingram M10 with the supressor. We had a large supply of 160 gr. round nose cast lead bullets for the .38 special. They came out of a Hensly and Gibbs mold IIRC. I reloaded .38 and 9mm back then. When we lubed and sized them we took them down to .356. I do not remember the recipe but it was a reliable round at moderate velocity. We had no chronograph then. This was in 1982/83. Did not lead the bore either. The heavy bullet gave us the recoil impulse we needed.
This was fungun ammo and it worked well at the city dump and such. Was a great place to shoot up irregular targets and the occasional rat.
