And a Krinkov-style flash-hider:

I have the bracket for the wooden handguard from Brownells- $25.00- looks like a nice part. Aluminum, with a steel capscrew to secure it. Donkey-dong HG should be here Monday or Tuesday.

One of the muzzle brakes will go on my .223 Saiga when I do its conversion.

Nice. I have the same stock and magss for mine. What FSB is that and how many clams did it cost?

And for the vented handguard, what is the easiest way to get holes uniformly aligned? I would like to do it to mine and then remove material in between some holes to make slots.

I used a greasepen to draw a line down the guard so the holes would be (somewhat) straight. I used a piece of wood as a spacer and made marks down the line. Drill holes with 5/16 bit IIRC. Then I used WD40 to remove the greasepen. I used 600 grit wrapped around a Sharpie marker to smooth the edges of the holes.

I haven't shot it yet with the vents. It used to get pretty hot, so I drilled it, and added an aluminum heat shield I made, between the barrel and guard. The donkey-dong grip is coming too, so one way or another, I'm solving the handguard heat issue. :D

I'm going to use this retainer for the wooden handguard:

Yes. :D

I'm undecided on staining it a dark red, or staining it a dark olive green.

I got the buttstock, pistol grip, and handguard for $7.99 from Centerfire systems.

Did you re-use your original saiga FSB pins for the new one? And where did you get the 24mm brakes. the ones at AKpartskits are for 14mm left handed.

Any Idea what it would cost me to get the FSB and the 74 style brake to my door?

I think that'll be all my questions.

LOL Ask away, I'm just sitting here getting buzzed....

I did re-use the pins for the trigger. I got the AK74 brake from Combathunting.com - it was $19.00, shipping was $10.36.

The FSB was $25.00 + $14.00 shipping.

I ordered a retaining pin set from KVAR, and the front pin and spring that retain the muzzle brake. That was $10.00 or so total.

So, $39 + $29 + $10 = $106, or thereabouts.

^^Is a good guide. Also, here is a guide to changing the FSB:

That is a rough saiga in that conversion guide. check out all the spot weld rings on the side of the receiver. No dimples on the mag well.

You should put the bolt hold open back in. It's really not that hard. I trimmed mine real good so I don't have so much sticking out to hit my trigger finger.

I don't use it, and the ranges I go to don't require it. There's a guy on another forum that's putting a converted Saiga back to sporter, and he is buying the trigger parts from the conversion, and I'm including the BHO.

I don't think I'm going to change the gas tube to use a wooden upper handguard. I think I may leave it as it is, or with just the donkey dong lower.

Well geez, a Saiga can only be reincarnated to it's true self a few times. It must be a good deal on what he got. I believe that will be a true PITA.

Just got back from the range. Sights are dead on. I liked the Krink brake better than the 74 brake. Neither affected accuracy, that I could tell, but they both dampened the recoil noticeably. I was able to fire double- and triple-taps one-handed, and keep it on the target.
Also shot a 1917 Lee Enfield I got in a trade earlier this week. That is a sweet shooter. 1917 Lithgow, Australia manufacture. I had considered selling it, to fund another Saiga, but I may just keep the Enfield. If only ammo were cheaper, I could see shooting it a lot. Less recoil than my Mosin-Nagant.
