Too quiet, what's up everyone?

I don't have a whole lot to talk about. Workouts are still progressing ever so slowly, and I still feel like crap for days afterwards; and that I, in general, have zero energy.

I talked to my GP about it, thinking my B12 levels were out of whack again; and he had my free and total test levels ran. Surprise, they're low. B12's fine, though. Actually a little high.

I start Androgel next week. I kind of have mixed feelings about it. It'd be nice to have the energy to get off my ass and put real effort into a workout.

Not much. Most of May off due to outside work (cutting wood, hauling brush), and almost 3 weeks in Scotland. Now ...

Hi Eye! Greeny, I love Scotland, the Scots are cool. They like to fight too.

He wants me to go for three months and be retested. Cortisol is low and free and total test are low. I forget the numbers now, but it was borderline enough on the scale that his nurse initially told me that they were fine; and then she called back after he saw the results and told me she was ordering androgel for me.

This is after it was tested low by my neurologist two years ago and she and her nurse-practitioner told me that it was fine just like that.

Nobody should ever trust a physician. I mean, this wasn't life threatening, but it and experiences like it have taught me the value of doing my own research and learning to ask questions.

I've been just plodding along. I've cut back to 2 workouts per week and the weights are shameful in some cases as I rehab some nagging injuries.

I know what you're talking about, it's been slooooooooooow around here. I've been so busy lately that I've barely had time to get workout in. Between work and family obligations, I haven't had much time. In fact I only did 2 deload workouts this week, Wednesday and Saturday. I have been so tired and worn out that the deload deadlifts were rough.

I'm hoping I can get fired up for Monday and get back into it strong.

LOL, I don't have anything worth typing about without changing this into the GT S&C Injuries Forum. I'm pretty well painted in a corner with so few exercises that it's not worth the effort, considering my workload. Two ortho appts in the next month, one for my shoulder and one for my back and neck. Left shoulder is actually in pretty bad shape, so much so that I've had to verify that I can write right-handed on the chalkboard. (Thanking God that I'm mostly both-handed. Otherwise, I'd be in trouble.) Left knee is still OK for everything except jumping and running. Might be able to do some of that, but don't have it in me to try at the moment.

If I can clear out some of these issues, then I'll re-assess. Right now, I'm so busy that I have little time or emotional energy to devote to a hobby that's becoming quite expensive in time and money. My research has picked way, way up, since January. That's a bright side. Some exciting and very nice projects and I'm doing well toward getting tenure.

Please let us know what the Docs say Brad. Good to hear your research is picking up. I just sat on a commitee to pick a research proposal.

BTW, July '09 MSC, good explanation of shear lag.

Checking in. Nothing much happening here. Workouts slowed/stopped in April and May due to gout, bronchitis and generally being otherwise busy. I felt good enough start Muay Thai again last week at 100%. That felt good and it seems like my conditioning suffered no loss after such a layoff. I went and worked out at a Hapkido school yesterday for 2 hours.

I'm still looking for another art to supplement my MT. I'm primarily looking for joint locks, weapons, and some grappling. I checked out a Ninjutsu school that also fuses American Ju-Jutsu (whatever that means), and a Modern Arnis school. I still yet have to visit another school that fuses Bando, Aikido, Ju-Jutsu, and Karate. The Hapkido school right now is at the top of the list due to instructor, curriculum, school environment, class schedule and location. The Hapkido school also includes a fusion of western wrestling/grappling, which helps it move it to the top of the list. They also have classes 6 days a week, which is great.

There's a Gracie school really close to me. My opinions on BJJ have come around a bit and it certainly would not be a bad art to compliment MT, so this is also a consideration still.

Look into Silat. Most of the moves are intended to pull an opponent into your center and break things when you get them there. They're all twisting and crushing movements. It's Indonesian. A really cool art.

From the little that I know, Pencak Silat, and the Filipino Martial Arts like Arnis and Escrima have lots of similarities. There isn't any Silat schools close by that I could find, otherwise I would love to try it.

That's the one the guru I learned Kali under taught. I really wanted to try it, but I had a full enough plate with Pekiti-Tirsia and Yang-style Tai Chi that I didn't want to spread myself too thin.

Although I really sucked at Kali. I just couldn't move that fast without tying myself up. I could do solo pretty well, but doble or espada y daga would just **** me up. I couldn't do it. I should've just gone to Silat or Muay Thai instead.

After reading this thread I don't feel as bad as I did about my workouts lately.

I've been working a second job in a borderline sweatshop to raise some funds for a few projects I want to get going. I haven't been eating right or sleeping well so my lifting is suffering.

I have managed to smash my hand on a stack of the heavy-duty skids and tweak my back somewhere in there too. I had been doing well on my DL's but missed #500 after struggling with #455.

I think I'm going to lay low, try to lift to maintain, and just get back on track once I'm done with the extra workload.

Smashed hands suck. And speaking of tweaked backs, at the gym tonight I saw a guy deadlifting in front of the rack beside mine. He started every set with the bar out in front of his feet, and with a mighty heave he'd bring the bar back to where he should've started it in the first place at the beginning of the first pull. Every set. Every rep after that, of course, because of the way gravity likes to work on heavy things, was right where it needed to be. I really wanted to say something, but decided not to.

I've pretty much quit for the past month or so. Ridiculously busy getting ready for a 30+ day trip overseas. Going to hit it hard when I get back though.

Trying to get back into the swing of things after moving into temporary living quarters that are quite the driving distance from my gym. I'm hitting the gym maybe two or three times a week, so my lifts are just maintenance lifts. I'm awaiting a visit to a neurosurgeon to consult on the results of a neck MRI that showed some "problems."

BTW, I've noticed the forum has been pretty quite lately.

Wow are we a sad bunch.

I've finally gone back to a day shift, starting 2 weeks ago. So my sleep patterns are totally out of whack.

I now fall asleep around 2am and get up at 5 am to lift before work. :faint:

But it should get better eventually.

Steering away from heavy weights while doing my cut has dropped my strength a little, so no records there. But my deads seem to be on par, which is a relief.

I'm starting a new undulating cycle, so we'll see how that goes.

And oddly, I've added over 1000cals back into my diet, and haven't gained any weight back in about a month.

Best of luck to everyone!

First ortho appt down, one to go. Left shoulder has infraspinatus tendonitis. That's pretty good news because he thought it was unlikely that there is a RC tear. Now time to put on the full court press to reduce inflammation. Might do some ultrasound also. Next appt in about 3 weeks.

Ultrasound didn't really seem to help much with my right shoulder tendinosis, but they're really different diseases so that may be why. It felt pretty good, at least.

I'd be interested to see what exercises they have you do with resistance bands for your supraspinatus. The exercises I was given were what really got it working again without pain.

Maybe we should have an Injury Update thread.

For me, I posted in GNG that my neurosurgeon consult advised surgery for four herniated discs/spinal stenosis. I'm awaiting a second opinion consult. I've trimmed back on my lifting and running. Pain management is the order of the day. I can do some light lifting to keep from feeling like a slug doing nothing at all.
