I checked out the new Remington 1911 yesterday.

It was priced a tad less that $700, and had nice overall fit and finish except for...the tip of the dust cover area of the frame.

I only checked there because I heard about some newer Colts having an issue there, and it was the same. I'm not a machining expert, but it seemed like when the recoil spring tunnel was cut, it was off center + the very tip of the frame had an extra cut mark, seemingly where more than one attempt was made. So take a look there if you are planning on getting one.

All the labeling on the frame indicated made in the USA, no made in Brazil or the Philippines which I coud see.

Except for that, it looked very nice.

Bac, based on what I've been reading here, my condolences to you. Ted will be happy to hear from you.

Yeah, I'm hoping mine turns out decent. I don't expect a whole heck of a lot in the $600 range.

Got mine at the local shop last Saturday:

$595 OTD......Won't have a chance to test-fire it 'til Friday:crying:
Looks like a really nice piece..so far I can't find anything to indicate a "made foreign/assembled in USA" scenario, such as SA.....
I'll have a better handle on things after the range session!!
(PS......photos are from my cell phone...)

Cobra, have you contacted Colt about this gun? Several people on the 1911 Forum got ¨lemon¨ WWI models and Colt made it right with them.

Last week I spoke with Kara at Colt and she said to send it in describing the issues. I didn't even mention the crappy roll marks and rough sloppy machining. Those will be in the accompanying letter though when I get around to it.

I've been working at getting a new job assignment so I can earn enough money to buy more 1911s. :)

BTW, do you have the link on the 1911 forum discussing other crappy WWI Colts and resolution?

Thanks for the links BOGE.

Those threads depress me. Absolutely incredibly poor workmanship. It's a shame that these people at Colt have no pride in their jobs.

We got our first R1 in at the shop yesterday and after taking it out and inspecting it, well, it's on it's way back where it came from. I know it's in the entry level category but this thing was rough. The sides of the frame on both sides had machining marks that showed through the bluing, and the fit and finish was horrible. The magazine felt cheap, and so did the gun in the hand. Now I'm no expert (bac) but placing the R1 next to a milspec it doesn't take a genius to see the poor quality. Hopefully it was an isolated incident and the replacement is in better shape.
