I just bought an american classic today and want to put on different grips, but I notice mine at the top are straight across. All the ones I see online are rounded at the top. They don't look like they would match up.There is a pic of my new gun on the forum under my new 45.Could someone take a look and let me know what would work on it.Thanks a lot. sj Or are they big enough to sand a little off the top?

The flat-top grips are an easy (inexpensive) way to be sure the extended thumb-safety doesn't hit the top of the grip.

The round-top grips are the original standard, and the left side was relieved on it's top-inner surface to clear the plunger tube (holds the spring and plungers for the safety and slide stop).

These days, grips come in all shapes, but it is not unusual to need to do a bit of "fitting" to the left side grip to clear the thumb-safety. The only thing to worry about with the right side grip is if your pistol has an ambi-safety. If so, you may need a small recess in the back side of the right grip (depends on ambi type).

Good luck.

Yep.

Its a standard 1911 frame. Rounded top grips will fit snuggly under the plunger, so don't worry about it.

My Firestorm has rounded grips, in fact, and its the same gun as yours.

This pic shows that.

Ask away.

That's what we're here for. :)

There are some great guys on GT's 1911 forum. I know I have and continue to learn from them.

No sweat, none of us were born knowing all about the pistols we've come to enjoy.
