Ruger made a 10/22 Magnum from '98 to 2006.

Volquartsen makes .22 mag auto rifles.

I think Remington makes a 597 in 22 mag. IIRC, it's in the $400 range.

:wow:
They used to have a basic model for around $700. I see it's now $1,400. Doubled in price in just a few years.
I bet they don't sell too many $2,000 models.
I almost bought one when they were $700, but it was just too much. Almost bought the Remington 597, but they had reliability (magazine) issues.
The Marlin 922 is an excellent rifle if you can find one, it's built on their centerfire Camp Carbine action. They pop up on Gunbroker every now and again.
I ended up buying a CZ 452 Lux because I couldn't find a good semi auto that was affordable. Love the Lux.

You might also want to look at Magnum Research. I think their version is about half of the Volq. Some report having mag feed issues but most opinions are very favorable. Me, I just purchased a 922M and it is the most overbuilt rimfire I've ever seen. As an earlier poster mentioned it is based on the Camp 9 and Camp 45 carbines, just with an aluminum receiver instead of steel. Great gun.

I went through a .22WMR phase, just traded my last one. In a handgun there just isn't much reason to have a .22magnum as the .22WMR is a rifle round. Not much gain over a cheaper CCI Velocitor .22LR or other hyper .22LR rounds in a handgun. I've had a couple of .22WMR rifles and they can be fun. I had a Remington 597 .22WMR that was accurate and reliable if clean. I had a Marlin bolt rifle in .22WMR that worked well.

In .22 caliber I think it makes more sense to have .22LR and then have a .223. Take a good hard look at the cost of .22WMR ammo and then look at what .223 or 5.56 ammo costs. My experience tells me that some .22WMR semi-autos like specific ammo; my last .22WMR liked very expensive .22WMR anmmo. You might look at a 1:9 20" barrel .223 that shoots "cheap" 55 grain ammo.

Harrington and Richardson model 700.

I got one- shoots well and won't break the bank (or at least shouldn't) when you find one.

Good luck.

.223, 20 rounds/$10
.22 WMR, 50 rounds/$8
Plus the muzzle blast of .223 is really annoying when you want to plink or hunt without waking the dead.

Hammerhead is quoting WRM vs .223 prices that are probably some averages but but good CCI WMR is higher and steel cased .223 is lower. The supersonic crack from a .22WMR is considerable also. I had a good functioning semi-auto .22WMR pistol that would literally thump and crack. I never fired it at night but the muzzle blast fire ball had to be significant.

.22 mag is interesting and shouldn't be overlooked if you are on a search for economic killing power. I think the quintessential .22 mag rifle is the Mossberg Chuckster. If you find one in good condition buy it. One of my friends has 2 or 3 Chucksters. I find the old Mossbergs in .22LR to be an "elegant sufficiency."

Again, I think the gap from .22LR to .223 is a small one, probably filled good enough by today's hyper velocity .22LR or maybe better filled by the .17.

You're right about the ammo prices, but I pay $8/50 for Federal Champion FMJ and it is great fodder for my CZ.
With it's 25" barrel, muzzle blast is very tame. You wouldn't want to shoot it without ear plugs, but it doesn't have the harsh crack and concussion of the .223. Sounds and feels like a hyper velocity .22lr in a rifle, but with a very useful bump in performance.
The 40 grain Champion clocks 1,950 fps from my gun, not even the 30-32 grain hyper .22lr loads come near that speed.
Out of a revolver, it's not the best choice, but it performs well in 10" single shots.

AMT is a possibility. I'd go with the KelTec personally.

I just sold on of those a couple months ago......mine was ammo picky and seemed to have a habit of kicking the safety on from time to time. it was OK, but not good enough for me to keep it. still have me Rossi 59 pump action.
