I fell in love with this STI VIP. It's the first 1911 I've wanted in years. It's time to get it over with I think.

I'll admit it's a bit more cash than I'd like to spend, but sometimes you have to hand someone a pile of cash in exchange for a kickass gun.

Well I thought it was mildly cool. I was talking about how much I hated STIs. Then I see one I thought was pretty damn sweet and I couldnt let it go. Is 1400 too much to pay for something like this?

I realize its not everyones cup o tea being a smaller double stack 1911 but I like it for exactly those reasons. I want a gun made in Texas.

I haven't bought it yet nor did I take any cell phone pics but heres what the gun looks like.

Apparently Ted Nugent likes STI, thats a big plus for me.

what's not to like.........oh wait the traditional STI billboard. But that wasn't enough to stop me from ordering an STI for my first 1911. If I like my Trojan enough I may consider picking up something like the VIP or Guardian as my EDC.

I say go for it.

Why??

The huge "billboard" as well as insane designs and colors. But now I look at it as modern art.

I don't think the billboard on the VIP is too bad.

This one doesnt look very GI to say 1911A1 on the side :)

I've always been a form follows function kinda guy. As long as they work I don't care what they look like.

After much study, I bought an STI Target Master for league shooting, .45 ACP, my favorite pistol.....out-of-the-box accurate, a bit more than I wanted to pay, but hey, a 1911 in a long slide is an expensive venture....

I am out......no regrets....

STI did make one 1911 that didn't follow their tradition. Sadly, its now discontinued.

A while ago, probably close to two years.

Its a shame, because I felt it was their best 1911.

That's a shame they don't make it anymore. I wonder how much it would cost to have their custom shop build something like that.

IMO, their double-stack frame is the BEST on the market. Their parts are also top notch. I recently put in an STI match sear into my Springfield and it was virtually drop in.

Not sure.

The Legacy with the optional PVD finish (which mine has) retailed for $1900-$2000, but that was a couple years ago.

Infinity is the best, in my opinion, but I'd say STI is second.

Infinity's guns are generally much more expensive too.

Bought an STI Steelmaster in 9mm about two years ago and it has been a great gun. Was a little rough out of the box but I took it to STI and they took the time to tweak the gun and the mags. Great customer service and nice people. That said I just canceled the order I had for a Shadow for my wife and one for me. They kept getting delayed. Promised NLT the first of May and then kept sliding two weeks at a time. Still not ready. In fairness to STI they did get a large Law Enforcement order for that pistol and have been working hard on it. Again great people and fine pistols.

I did hear STI's service was very good, though I never had to use it.

I guess that's a good thing.

I would love for you to buy it, shoot it, and post a range report...because I have been kicking around the idea of getting a VIP a few times and haven't been able to run across much feedback on them.

A guy I talked to gave his son, who was a Lt. Col in the Army, two STIs to take over to Afghanistan and Iraq. Apparently the guy's son got injured in Iraq and was sent back to the base in Germany. They promoted him to Colonel and decided to keep him out of the warzone. Recently they took a trip to Texas and went to STI. STI cleaned and tweaked both guns for free and took before and after pics. They might use them in an ad, said if they did they would pay the guy.

I should have said best in my price range :)
I assumed the frames were the same though. Both STI ad SVI are very elusive in my area. Have never seen an SVI on the shelf...

SVI pretty much just builds per order. They don't produce guns for display, so that's why you never see them.

In fact, they're all custom built per customer's specs. They have no standard named models, unlike STI.

That said, they did recently sart a line called "Strayer Signature" which has certain standard features, but still requires much customer input to complete the build.

The VIP should be coming home with me in the next two weeks. Im excited to get the little blaster home.

What's funny is I'm already planning my next 1911 purchase. It is probably going to be the Guncrafter No Name, I cant get enough of that gun.
