So I was debating getting a Mossberg 817. Went to Dicks Sporting Goods to check one out and didnt really like it. Came home with this instead.

Savage 93R17 with a Simmons 3-9x40 scope. It feels much nicer then the Mossberg and def looks like its much better quality. Hopefull Ill get to shoot it Saturday if the weather doesnt turn foul.

I've said this a bunch many couple of times, but I bought a Savage Mark II GXP .22LR, Wood, Bolt Action with scope from Dick's... was $200 I convinced them to honor my Scrap prize of $149.99...

it is my FAVORITE gun.. it looks great, it FEELS awesome, shoots redonkulous.... it's just great... I don't have kids, and I'm damn near 30 and I'm starting to think I might not ever have em, but if I do, I will look forward to giving this Savage... it's just teh hotnezzz.

I def plan on doing that with my ruger 10/22 when I have a kid.

Congrats, you should love the accuracy and the accutrigger is fantastic straight out of the box.

Happy shooting.

Tried it out this weekend. Sighting in at 100 yards. What a *****. Finally got it on paper but ran out of time. Gonna take another 15-20 mins of shooting to fine tune it next weekend.

I think Im either gonna need a better scope or spotting scope. I dont think the 3-9x40 is going to cut it for 100yards.

If you are just going to use if for hunting the 3-9x is probably fine.

But I have a 6-24x on my 93R17FV.

The plans to use it for fun target shooting at 100yards and eventually some small game hunting.

What scope is that on yours? Im not looking to spend much, as I dont have much to spend. Under $100, preferably around $75.

EDIT: With the 3-9, at 100yds; I can barely see the hits on target. And thats with the shoot-n-c ones. With no reactive ones, I cant see any hits.

It's a Tasco 6-24x42MM CDNN had them on closeout back in 2002 or 2003 when I bought the rifle. I only paid $39 for it.

What do you think about these, I dont need anything spectacular. Both at CDNN right now.

Any opinions on mil-dot vs duplex reticle? Or 40/42/44/50mm glass size?

Congrats on the new 17.I like mil-dot reticles for their range compensating abilities. The bigger the objective the more light it gathers. The only drawback is that you have to mount the scope higher, which could effect alignment with your eye.Have you checked out the BSA Sweet 17 ?

Just checked the BSA 'sweet' line out. Its out of my current price range.

I think Im going to go with one of these 2 from amazon.

The lense is bigger then the 40 I currently have on there but the current one is sitting on low rings and I have a set of medium ones I prefer to be using anyways

Never had a Barska, but Tasco makes a decent scope.

Looked at each of those last two scopes on their respective websites this morning. Im going to go with the Barska. Has slightly bigger glass and is an AO scope where the Tasco is not.

Ordering today!

I'm not really a fan of the Mil-dot, I just don't use it and think it's too much clutter.

Glass size, the larger you go the more light it will gather, especially at the higher magnifications. 24x in a 40MM glass is almost useless on anything other then a bright sunny day.

So the Barska is ordered, and also a bi-pod. Was gonna finish sighting in the rifle on the scope that came with it this weekend but whats the point now. Guess I wont be shooting that one this weekend, no big deal.
