View Full Version : Where's the love for blued 1911s?
I'm seeing pics of everything but, so let's post 'em.
I like Hard Chrome the best, but from a classic look standpoint, nothing beats bluing.

Yes, they're blued, TM. :)
I didn't know what finish they had I thought it was blued but when I bought them I didn't care that much because I'm really planning to send both of them off eventually hopefully one will go out in the next week or two the other might be a little while so that's why the finish wasn't a big concern.

Thanks for the compliments, fellas......It is a nice pistol, for sure. Steve actually called me after I bought that pistol and we talked for quite a while. Seems as though we have a lot in common. I think I am going to have him do another pistol for me toward the end of the year. He did a fantastic job on this pistol. He has a strong affinity for a strong, work style pistol. Right up my alley.....

Thanks Bac,
I usually cruise through 2-3 times a week, but don't always have anything important to add to the conversations. I'll try to be a little more involved, as I do enjoy the members that participate on GT.
By the way, of the many beautiful pistols you have, that Legacy has gotten under my skin. I'll need to find a "gently used" one. Also, thanks for the tips in trying to contact Liebenberg, although he still won't return my emails. I guess I can get another 'smith to work on my Scout...:crying:

With your very fine taste in 1911s, an STI Legacy would fit right in, especially with the PVD finish. I'll keep my eyes open for one on Gunbroker, but I honestly haven't seen one on there in a long while. I don't think STI built many, as they were pricy and not really in STI's tradition to begin with. They're beautiful pistols though.
As far as PD is concerned, they are hard to get ahold of. I spoke mostly to Paul's wife during the ordering process. She is a nice lady and was very helpful throughout, but it sometimes would take a couple of emails or calls before I got a response. I honestly think he is backlogged pretty good at this point.

In the past year, Wilson has had Doug Turnbull's shop provide the charcoal bluing on a limited basis. Turnbull's also handles the Top Gun Supply polished blue special edition from Wilson. I'm lucky enough to own three from Turnbull. The first he provided polished controls against matte blue frame and slide. However, I understand he no longer provides polished blue for Wilson - only matte blue (TSG may be an exception). Really doesn't matter, because Turnbull's charcoal bluing in any form is simply amazing, and I have yet to accurately capture the true depth and color in my photos (tried hard, too). You really just have to see them to fully appreciate. The only thing more amazing from Turnbull is his color case hardening. Good stuff.
I'll try to find time this weekend to shoot some photos of some more of my Wilson/Turnbull pistols, and other blued beauties.
Take care, Steve

Very nice!

Here's my NRM 1991. I sent it back to Colt for a dehorn, barrel and bushing fit, frontstrap serrations and a 3.5lb trigger. I added an Ed Brown MSH and a Harrison short trigger. I added a 10-8 NM rear sight and Novak gold bead installed up front. It's a sweet shooter.http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab76/sammuse/sss/WindowsPhotoGalleryWallpaper.jpg?t=1277820027

Bac,
Just love the bluing and flat distinct roll marks on that Gold Cup. Truly from an age of craftsmanship long gone at Colt.

Is that a Rock River? It looks real nice why did you sell it?

It is a Rock River.
I'm curious too. My RRA Limited Match is one of the best 1911s I own.
I thought it was a RR,I'm more than curious about this.I saw the "roll mark" on the left hand side/Bac taught me that. His RRA is outstanding.'08. :dunno:

I sold it because the inside of the frame and slide had real bad toolmarks, so bad that it wouldn't cycle properly...RRA said I'm making it up even tho I've sent them pictures. 1911forum.com banned me because of it. RRA didn't even want to look at the gun in person and denied any service so I got rid of it. I for one am glad they don't make 1911's anymore. Sad really because they made some nice guns but that's no way to treat a customer. Sorry I can't find pics anymore...that was 5 - 6 years back.

After 600 rounds, the bluing on my TRS still looks new, I carry my Nighthawk commander more but this guy has seen some holster wear as well. I am not sure if Baer changed their bluing process, but my others wore quicker then this one

Very surprising.
I did hear that RRA's CS left something to be desired, but I never had to use them.

Willis....did your TRS come with that rug? Mine came with a cardboard box, if I recall correctly. Nice TRS, by the way.
