View Full Version : Short Barrel Ammo
I bought a box of Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection short barrel 40 SW 180 gr. HP. The box indicates it is for maximum expansion in handguns with 2 in. barrels. My question is, will I lose anything if I use this ammo in my G27 for SD?
Thanks, Stan

Nope. It is a good choice for a G27!

The info I received from ATK/Speer seems to indicate that the R&D engineers used the Glock M-27 as the predominant weapon in development of the .40 S&W Gold Dot short barrel load.

The data page indicates their test barrel length was 3.5". That's a G27 basically.
My main gripe with GD SB is the cost.
Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I wanted to hear.
I am not aware of any autoloader with a 2" barrel. Did you buy revolver ammo by mistake? I am confused.
Jav21 I was confused also when I read that on the box but it is ammo for a semi.

As previously stated in this thread, Speer's own ballistic data tables for their 9mm and .40 short barrel ammo shows that a 3.5" test barrel was used. I think the 2" reference is boiler-plate marketing info from their .38 Special and .357 Mag short barrel cartridges. For these revolver cartridges, a 2" test barrel was used.

I would like to see Speer put some 357 Short Barrel out on the market. I look regularly and haven't seen anything for a year.
