Well, I got my third pistol from Guncrafter Industries from my initial order today. I was so impressed with Brian's (bac1023) pistol, I have been sitting on the fence about whether I was going to sell the 2nd one, or keep if for myself. The pistol showed up today, and it didn't take long for me to make my decision. I grabbed three boxes of ammo and headed out to my shooting area. 150 rounds of flawless, dead on accurate shooting and I am getting more and more convinced that Guncrafter Industries 1911 .45's just may be the best kept secret in the semi-custom market. This pistol is the standard "No Name" except Alex flush cut and crowned the barrel for me. After I finished up with my range session, I cleaned it up and wore it for the rest of the day in my Bullman TSA-HP IWB holster. I realized really quick that the "Shredder" grips that come on the pistol are named that for a reason. They are excellent when shooting the pistol, but they will make quick work of any flesh they come in contact with while wearing IWB. I am convinced if I would have left they on for any longer, I would have exposed a damn kidney in short order. I ended up changing them out with a set of VZ Frag grips in black which really go well with the 15 lpi checkering. I cannot say enough positives about the simplicity, yet total attention to detail on these pistols. Nothing that has not been said before with the other threads on the NN. Here are a few pictures I took after my range session....excuse the lint.

As it should, Brian.....I know you carry a lightweight framed Kimber for ccw, but do you plan on carrying your NN at all? Just curious....I am still laughing at the "shredders". They are about the gripiest (is that a word?) grips I have ever used, but they are brutal as hell for carry! The shredder name is fitting, but they just as easily could have called them the piranhas. :)

Well, let's put it this way...

If I ever decide to carry a full size 1911, the NN is in serious contention.

The melonite finish is good carry finish. I had a HK P7M8 that I had melonited. I carried that thing hard for a couple years and it held up like a champ.

Melonite isn't a finish, its a metal treatment..the blackening of the metal is what happens from the reaction.

Well, I ordered mine tonight. A Commander No Name with a recessed crowned barrel. And it's going to be hardchromed  Now for the wait. I still have enough time to add a bobtail, but I'll wait until I get my bobbed CDP Pro back from Chuck before I make that decision. If I don't go with a bobtail, I'll get a rounded butt, and if a magwell works on a rounded butt, then it'll have a magwell. Anyone wanting one, definately should contact Dave. He's a great guy to deal with. Looking foward to my new sweety.

Yeah guys the GC NN is one of the best looking guns Ive seen, the workmanship looks great.

Ive been contacted by a dealer on this forum and he was very helpful so I decided to get the ball rolling, lead time on the order is around twelve weeks.

I went with basic specs on a full size with standard frame.

Curious about the mags in the various photos. Are they OEM?...aftermarket Tripps?...XP springs?...or ?.

Std 7rd or 8?...are the followers flat?, dimpled?, concave/convex?, plastic?

Are the mag lips full, tapered, or abrupt release?

I tried but could not find any of this information on the GC web site.

The pistol is only 1/3 of the system This one, especially the Cmbt Cmdr, looks dang good. Curious about the remaining 2/3 though.

Thanks,

The thing I like so much about GI guns is that they look like they should be attached to a tank. They have a very "construction equipment" look to them, which I really like. Makes you feel like you are looking at a well designed tool, that is made to be used, not just looked at.

i don't think any of the semi custom shops do 15LPI.

In fact, I'm not aware of anybody else who makes this a regular practice. The standards are 20, 25, and 30LPI. There are some custom smiths who will take the time to do 40LPI. You don't hear much about 15 though. :dunno:
