This is a response to a thread about me wanting and eventually ordering a GC No Name. I know it's his opinion, but you know what they say about opinions...

"not hatn but your paying minimal of 2495 for a guncrafter no name 1911?

dude I'd just get a nighthawk, wilson, brown,or baer...I'm sure your 1911 will look nice an sleek an run great but I dont see it as a plus2000 1911..just my opinion though I'm sure if its what you really wanted then you will love it. Oh and as always make sure to post pics when you get it! "<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. At least he wasn't insultive - like on other threads and other forums... I've dealt with that. Someone does't like x,y or z... And they don't just leave it at that... They call everyone an idiot who likes x,y or z. That kind of stuff really pisses me off.

If I were to buy another higher end 1911, I'd probably buy another Ed Brown - a Kobra 5" with a rail. Or, a 9mm Nighthawk. I don't know that I would buy a Guncrafter - But I don't have the means to buy as many 1911s as Bac does :tongueout:

The Guncrafter does look sweet, though. And, it seems like a great 1911. With a wife that totally hates guns, though, I'm lucky to have the guns I have now :)

I did look at Guncrafter's full dustcover model when I was thinking about my Custom Operator.

It's nice to have another high end 1911 available. I personally would probably go with a Brown, Wilson or Baer before the GI NN but that doesn't mean it isn't a great gun and well worth the money.

Hi guys,
Yes, I was with Alex from day 1. Also we have been friends for over 25 yrs. Alex has trained me in this profession. Also, I've worked for WC building 1911's, right from CQB's to supergrades.
Besides being a 50GI pistolsmith, I also makes all 50GI ammo and have developed all loads available.
Anyway...interesting site here, a lot to learn + a very good reminder of stuff we kind of know, but have forgotten again ha ha.

Do you guys shoot at any of the matches on Monday's over at Ozark Sportsman in Tonitown or the matches on Tuesday's at Sturm's in Springdale? I used to shoot quite a bit at Ozark Sportsman and have shot a few times at Sturms, but after moving from Fayetteville to Bella Vista, just never get down there much. Plus, Bella Vista has a couple of pretty nice ranges for POA members.

50GI-Jess
06-25-2010, 21:56
Hi,
Yes, I shot at the Sportsman many times. I won the Midt-West regional revolver championship in ICORE there a couple of times. Don't shoot many weekly practice matches anymore, simply because of our workload at GI.
However, Sometimes on weekends, I go to Ft.Smith for steel challenge or Berryville for IDPA matches.

Not yet, Dude.....I will visit Alex tomorrow. Today I spent a good deal of time at Wilson Combat and then went over to see Chris at Metaloy. Wilson Combat was incredible if your a 1911/Rifle/Shotgun guy. I walked into one of their gun vaults and damn near started crying!! lol Everybody at Wilson Combat was very nice and John LaHue gave me the wall to wall tour. I even got to see some prototype rifle stuff they are doing with Remingtons and FN's. Incredible, incredible stuff. They also had one of my pistols from my initial stocking order done, so I saved some money on shipping. I definately learned quite a bit about how the Wilson operation runs....very impressive. I popped in on Chris at Metaloy unanounced and he is a super guy. We spent damn near an hour just BSing and he educated me on his hardchrome process. I guess I am going to have to find something to send him to HC. Just you like told me, Joe, Chris is one hell of a nice guy....I am glad I stopped by. Needless to say, these are some very hard working individuals that really know their stuff. I am glad I made the trip up here....I am learning quite a bit and am looking forward to meeting Alex and Jess tomorrow. I took some pictures at Wilson Combat, but left my cable to download the pictures to my laptop at home. I will post them when I get home. It is beautiful country up here....and the beer is nice and cold....:)

I knew you'd like the country side down there. Have you been out in Eureka to some bars yet? There's some pretty cool people there, but there's some strange birds there too. Be sure to take plenty of pictures. See any ghosts yet?

I won't buy gun mags anymore.....ever!
********s......cover blurbs stating 1 1/2" accuracy at 50ft!
What sheer crap.

I could tell some hair-raising stories concerning magazine articles and the mechanisms involved in getting an article printed.....but to what end?

Been there.....done that.......got the stained t-shirts.
Well certainly not me, just speaking of my peers.

Just walked in the door.....made it from Alex's shop to my house in 7 hrs 15 minutes.....might have broke a few laws in the process. It was a hell of a trip. I really enjoyed meeting everybody. The folks in that neck of the woods (Wilson Combat, Chris at Metaloy, Nighthawk Custom and Alex, Jess and Dave at Guncrafter) are top shelf. I especially want to thank Alex and Jess at Guncrafter who more or less shut down their work to spend a couple hours educating me about their product and letting me run several of their .50 1911's. These guys are the real deal.....A no BS story for you guys.....After I was done shooting, Jess pulled out his workhorse .50 from about 15-20 yards and says to me, "see that lowest bullet hole from your group? I am going to put a bullet through that hole".....and proceeds to put a bullet damn near through the same hole, almost not even distorting the size of the original hole. These guys are professionals and super nice guys. I am glad I made the trip.....I learned a whole lot from these guys.

Well, just go with the GI Alumigrips.

That is a great option, but then I could not shred the cheese to put on my tacos using the grips!

Nah....if it was 1911 fantasy camp, Jess and Alex would have been a couple of 19 year old college chicks that liked to build 1911's in wet t-shirts....No such luck! :)

Believe it or not, they actually tame the shredder grips down with sandpaper before they send them out. Alex showed me a pair of untamed shredders today. You would definately need gloves with the untouched grips.....they are definately the most aggressive grips I have ever handled.

If I bought 1911s in others calibers, I would too.

I do believe the 50GI models are Guncrafter's best pistols.
