New to the 1911 Style

I am thinking about adding a 1911 to my arsenal (Glock 23, Bersa 9mm, and Diamondback 380) but must admit that other than Desert Storm where we were issued the full sized weapon, I know nothing about them.

Due to my size, I perfer not to get a full size pistol. Also, are the 9mm versions worth it?

I am aware that there are many manufacturers. Your recommendations for an entry level 1911 style are greatly appreciated.

The .45 ACP never knocked a shooter or a shootee out of their shoes. If you get a 1911, get one in the caliber it was made for. If you want a 9mm, get a Hi Power.

Take your time doing your research and get some range time with several candidates. The shooting and handling characteristic for the "Government" and the "Commander" sized pistols are very similar. Get what floats your boat.

yes, it is expensive, but it's well built, much better than the Springfield Loaded's and on par with the TRP.

for a 9mm 1911, you can get a RIA Tactical for $415, a STI SPartan for $650, Springfield Loaded for ~$800, etc...
