Guys, my dad is in the market for a new 1911...It will be his first fullsize (He has a Kimber CDP Pro).

He is leaning toward a Baer but not sure which one. I told him I'd ask you guys to get some opinions...Don't think he wants to spend over $2K (I was trying to get him to spring for the Sprinfield Pro but those are a little too pricey for him).

What do you guys think? I've heard good things about the Tunder Ranch...If you were going to by a Baer for carry, what wouold it be?

Thanks in advance!

TRS or if he's feeling froggy and wants to splurge..... SRP.

TRS or the Custom Carry would be great choices IMO.

All the Baers are built with the same quality but only some of them can be ordered with the optional 1.5 at 50 yard guarantee. So he just has to decide which features he thinks would be the best for him. Myself I don't have any use for an ambi safety and prefer night sights so the TRS made the most sense. The TRS comes with three mags where as some others come with one and others two. Some people are put off by the TR logo but it doesn't bother me a bit.

SRP, Custom Carry, or Concept IV...all beautiful and no-nonsense! Love that Concept IV! That will be my first Baer!

Guess I could have added Ed Brown into the mix. I like the Kobra and Special Forces:

Any preference over one or the other (Ed Brown or Les Baer)? I know they're both fantastic 1911 manufacturers...

You can order them without the logo now for no up charge but there is a 12 to 14 week wait for special orders.

Never shot a Baer, but shot Quack's Kobra Carry last week and that thing was FABULOUS. I will get one probably sooner than later, although I also really like the LB TRS Commanche.

I vote TRS.

I think the SRP is the best pistol Baer builds, but they run $2500 or so and even more with the 1.5" accuracy package.

I agree. In my opinion, the TRS is the best pistol built at its price point. It can be had for well under $2,000. I am not a big fan of the standard pistol with front cocking serations, but they can be ordered without them. My NP3+ TRS eats anything and everything I have ever fed it. It is not a refined weapon (ie. has tool marks inside the slide/frame, ect), but it is fit well and is rock solid!

I don't know why, but the Baer 1911's seem to be a little more scarce than usual right now. Conspicuously absent from my favorite auction site. Strange.

Just my .02...

I had both of those exact two guns and although both are really great the Brown is better. Bettr fit and function (reliability wise) and the Brown just "feels" like a better built gun. The hard chrome onthe TRS Comanche was a very nice finish but for some reason the MSH and the hammer are not finished in hard chrome, both parts developed rust. Not a huge deal but I did find it odd. I eventually sold the Baer and kept the Brown as I could tell which one I would use more long term.

Now if indeed you can get both then that's the option! Only get one? Get the Brown, again just my .02.

www.migunslingers.com George Talia will give you the best price that you can find. Between the Kobra and Special forces, I would get a naked slide Special forces they are excellent pistols and look very nice without the roll-marks, that or the Les Baer TRS you would be happy with either but the Special forces is a more refined pistol

Any Baer you get will be a very nice gun. I had a TRS. I loved everything about except the thin grips. If I had to get another Baer, it'd be a Custom Carry.

I just picked up an Ed Brown Special Forces. It too is a very nice gun. I can't say that it is better than the Baer... just different. What I do like about the Ed Brown over the Baer is that I can take the Ed Brown apart without tools. That TRS was a pain to take apart (LB quality tho).

Baers are much tighter than Browns when it comes to the frame, slide, and bushing.

Late to the thread but will throw my .02 in anyway. I don't carry a 1911 but do play a lot of gun games with one. For me the LB Premier II does it all without breaking the bank to get to set up.

He usually has 'em in stock without front serrations. I bought my Custom Carry from him last year. Good guy to deal with. I'd take the extra time and order one though. I'd get it with no frontstrap checkering, slide naked and plain black sights. I hate the sights L.B. uses, so no point in paying extra for tritium. I'd get someone else to checker the frontstrap as I like 25LPI and L.B.'s checkering can get kinda sloppy.

nothing sloppy about hand checkering its art LOL.

If i were to order another les baer it would be this.

Les baer custom carry:

20 LPI front strap
solid trigger
Ambi safety along with a fitted single sided safety
1.5" option
bear coat whole gun (hammer, bushing barrel, trigger included)
Half naked slide (keep the baer custom but remove the .45 acp)

I would then have a s&a magwell installed/blended and replace the sights with a 10-8 rear and gold bead front
