*Update* Range report on post 38

On my way home from work today I was able to stop by my FFL on pick up my new 1911. I must say I am very pleased with both the fit and finish of this pistol. I will try to make it out to the range in the next week and I'll udpate this thread with a range report.

It is the STI Trojan with the enhancement package from Dawson Precision. I had the trigger tuned to 3.5# and it feels great with very little takeup and a nice clean break without any noticeable over travel. By far the best trigger I have felt. I also was surprised to find an ambi safety that I did not order  I am excited with my new purchase and can't wait to hit the range. Thanks to everyone that helped me decide on my first 1911.

Well you're doing pretty good as long as they don't turn out to be the punchline of those "They walk among us and they vote" Emails.

How old are your kids?

I made it out to the range today with the Trojan. It was a great day at the range for sure. Not only did I get to put the first rounds through the Trojan but I also brought along my best friend and little brother (15). It was my brothers first time ever shooting a gun so I had the pleasure of teaching him some of the basics.

As for the Trojan, It exceeded my expectations and shot like a dream. I fired the first mag through the Trojan after a few warm up shots out of a few other guns. The result of the first mag was one ragged hole that measured approx. 1.5" center to center at 8 yards. I was consistently more accurate with this pistol than any other that I've ever shot . Between the three of us we fired 150 rounds through the Trojan. The best grouping was shot toward the end of the day and it measured roughly 1" with 8 rounds fired offhand at 8 yards. The only failure happened to be a stovepipe while my brother was shooting. We were shooting Georgia Arms reloads in 230gr and 185gr.

Not even close to the best target. My brother wanted all of the good ones

I used to hate the slides but then started liking them after handling guns.
But it would be really cool if it only had the STI logo on each side.

I take it as punishment for buying a complete. They probably want you to buy their parts.

Well, I never thought STIs were the greatest looking 1911s in the world, but their abilities sort of make up for it. :)

The one 1911 they built that really looked great was the Legacy. However, it was expensive and now they don't build it anymore. It was too traditional looking to be an STI, I guess. :dunno:

Congrats!

Yeah, the Trojan is a great shooter. :)

After shooting the Trojan it is hard to believe that semicustoms and customs are that much better ( I know they are). The Trojan just feels like what I envisioned a Baer would feel like. I guess that comes from being a 1911 noob. Needless to say I am a happy camper.

I remember you showing me the Legacy when we were up last. It is a nice piece.

It's a shame that so many gun manufacturers stop making some of their best stuff... Colt Pythons, Sig P210s, Rock River 1911s...

Congrats on the gun but even more so on some quality time with your little brother. The shooting sports are something that my brother and I are able to enjoy together-however, we hardly have the time to make it happen.

I agree Cobra.

Its a shame some of the fine firearms of the past aren't built anymore. :dunno:

The Trojan is a very slick 1911 and one of the best values in the business.

I have considered getting something from their custom shop but I have a feeling there are better 1911's to be had for the price of an STI custom. When it comes time for the next one I will give them a call to see how it prices out and go from there.

For some reason I totally flip flopped and fell in love with the 2011s when I shot a few. No they aren't perfect but are definitely some of the best double stack .45s I've shot, that includes non 1911s.

I'm waiting for my dealer to get a Perfect 10, I wanna shoot it bad. Mainly because of Nugent.
