EMP Protection

If an emp device were detonated above our atmosphere, what would be the best way to protect electronic devices? Wrap them in foil? Lock them in a guns safe?

In my opinion, the best "poor man's" Faraday Cage is a galvanized steel trash can (with a tight fitting lid). It's readily available, solidly made, tight, and large enough that you can place a number of smaller electronic items within. Just be sure the items aren't touching the steel surface -- insulate them by placing them in on top of styrofoam or in a cardboard box, etc.

Note that some folks also use foil tape to seal the lid seam to the can.
