Did you alert them to the design flaw that you rectified with the flat trigger? :tongueout:

I just watched the episode. I am not trying to be mean or stereotype people but those techs in the Remington factory did not look too savy. The guy with the Saratoga tee and the women using the mallet really dont make me want to go out and buy an R1. I really liked the comment on how they are looking to make money by capitalizing on the popularity of the 1911 platform. It will be interesting to see how the quality control is with these new models and any future "higher end" models.

if you did not catch it, they said that they were building a 1911 "that required virtually no fitting."

"we had to make sure we could make the components in a production basis without hand fitting"

also sound's like they are going to be making other model's.

I think they are just another company trying to cash in on the popularity of the gun market right now. I doubt they will make a big impact when you have companies like Springfield & Kimber out there that are more established. If anything Remington might inspire Kimber or Springfield to expand their " entry level" lines even more. I saw the R1 at my local shop and passed very quickly over it.

I picked up on that too. Looking forward to see what they do. Hope it isn't a double-stack.

FWIW, i've been searching for a Springfield mil-spec for the last 8 months and didn't find one that i found decently fit. the mil-spec's had loose barrel to bushing fit, heavy/gritty triggers and a loose fit slide. The R1 was better in those aspects, as well as the added benefit of the dovetail front sight.

Just got home from a local large retail store. They were taking pre-orders for the R1, $699. They can keep it for that price.

I believe a stainless R1 may be next.

I don't think it will look as nice stainless, but I know some of you love stainless 1911s. I like carbon steel better.

The Mil-Specs are designed to be a military grade side arm.
No frills and no "match grade" anything in it.
Made to shoot holes in people at close range.
Not made to shoot holes that touch each other at 25 yards.

Take one of those fancy target shooters along with a Mil-Spec and throw them into a mud puddle.
Which one would you want to pick up in a life threatening situation.
What do you expect for $500.00?

There is no excuse to have a loose barrel to bushing fit. They saved a few bucks is the reason.

I was looking at a stainless mil-spec. at my usual shop and it had a very noticeable hump on one side of the slide where someone was careless when polishing the slab side. Bottom of the line gun or not I won't buy that particular one.

James,

They will be in tomorrow

I'm debating whether to pick up the Remington first or the EMF Hartford. I'm leaning towards the Remington, but I'll sleep on it. :wavey:
