View Full Version : Monarch .223 ammo?
I have a chance to buy a case of Monarch .223 55gr softpoint ammo for 300 bux. That is a very good price for .223 ammo around here. But I got to wondering if it is any good. I consulted a friend with much experience with this calibere and deep knowledge as well. He advised me to take a pass on it. Called it Junk. Still I wanted to come in here and get a few more expert opinions. Do y'all agree with my friend or would this be a good buy? Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't pay that for Monarch when you can get Wolf or Silver & Brown Bear for around $220/1K shipped. But then again a lot of people would call those choices junk too. I'm not one of those people though. :)
If the Monarch is brass cased that's a decent price
Monarch brass is manufactured by Prvi Partizan

Monarch .223 whether it is brass or steel is very poor quality ammo. I ran some over a chronograph recently and was getting velocity ranging from 3050 to 2900 fps.
It is plinking ammo at best.

In addition to the above, it's also on the dirty side.
