View Full Version : A 1911 has to go...but which one?

I have a tough decision to make. I have 2 semi custom 1911's - a Wilson CQB, and a 1.5" hard chrome Les Baer SRP (thanks BAC!). One has to go, but I'm having an unusually difficult time making the decision, hence this thread. To me, the Wilson is a bit cleaner, more refined. I'm anal about how things look inside and out and the Wilson nails it. The SRP looks great, but it's a little less clean - mostly on the inside. They both shoot great, but the SRP is insanely accurate. Even though I prefer the CQB aesthetically, my gut is to keep the SRP and sell the CQB. I'm into the SRP for a better deal, and I think the CQB is a little easier to come by if I wanted one down the road. There is also the thought that a SD pistol needs to be a tool, not a pretty safe queen. Anywho, pictures to assist:

Please no - "keep both, sell a kidney" responses
I need to let one go - thoughts?

I'd lose the Wilson.

Sounds like you want the SRP to stay, go with your gut or you will be second guessing yourself forever.

I would keep the Wilson, just a personal preference. The long term customer service will also be there for the Wilson, maybe maybe not with the Baer.

Really can not go to wrong either way!

Has either one been less reliable than the other? If the answer is yes, get rid of the less reliable one. I think I would lean toward keeping the Baer.

If the Baer shots better I would go with that one. But if you decide on the wilson I'm sure someone would give the Baer a good home:wavey:

Judging by looks alone...........sell the LB

Sell a glock.... or plasma.... something else. You'll kick yourself later.

That is a very tough choice. I like them both and I hate to hear that you would have to part with either. Hopefully some extra money will come your way and you'll be able to keep them both. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't necessarily want the SRP to stay. It's the little things that get me about the Baer - things that shouldn't matter, like it being more of a pain to clean because it's a little rougher on the inside. I really like the Wilson lifetime guarantee, and they will also customize your pistol any way you want it. Les is a little more stringent on those things.

The gun is mainly for HD, but also the one I grab when I hit the range (with occasional carry). I'm having a hard time with this because it will be my sole 1911 for a long time. For me it's a pretty good investment of cash, and I want to make the right choice.

Unfortunately my one glock wouldn't get the same amount of cash as these pistols...go figure.

I'd keep the wilson but that is my opinion. I have never like the Baer's as much as the WC's. I dont like LB's cocking serrations but like i said that is just personal preference. I wouldnt let anyone else influence your decision besides yourself.

I'm truely sorry that you're in the situation of having to part with one of them, as they are both gorgeous. If you do sell one......keep the wilson.

I have them both and would keep the Baer for sure.

The SRP is probably their best overall pistol.

Don't get me wrong, the CQB is great, but an SRP with the guarantee is one hell of a shooter. I think I just like Baers better overall.

God no.

If I sold two world class guns like that and bought a cheap-ass Glock, I'd be depressed for a year afterwards. :whistling:

I sold my Baer and my Rock River and kept my Glock 19! I feel great! I don't have to worry about rust, bushing wrenches, almost twice the capacity, utterly reliable with every ammo I've tried, lighter, smaller, easier to work on etc. I'll just have to depend on Bac's pictures for a pretty gun now.:faint:

No comparison in my opinion, look at the machining on the slides. The CQB looks more like a $1,000 Kimber than a $2600 semi custom.

I like Glocks as well, but if it came down to it, my Glocks would be gone long before a single 1911.

Yeah, Jeff, the SRP is just a better gun, in my opinion.

SRPs, especially with the 1.5" guarantee, are not all that common. CQBs are much more common, probably 10 to 1, if not more.

To me, the SRP is a special 1911, the CQB, is a great 1911, but about as ordinary as a semi custom can get.

Keep the Wilson. Im sure they both shoot excellent. The Wilson looks way better.

I do not own either and therefore not qualified to say which to sell and which to keep. I feel like at least two 1911s are important. If one is in the shop, you still have a quality one to shoot.

If you have other items to sell, I would say try to sell them. Knives, other brands and style of hanguns, perhaps a long arm that does not get used,
motor cycle just to name a few. Good shooting 1911s are a prize.

That is a tough choice, because I would love to have either of those two guns. The opinion of many 1911 gurus is to keep the SRP so that is probably what I would do.

At first I thought I'd keep the Wilson because of the looks... but then noticed I loved the Baer as well.

The Wilson is more "common" for sure.

Keep the SRP.

I've had both Wilsons and Baers. The Wilsons had better finishes, but the Baers were fitted better so they shot better. That means more to me. I'd buy another Baer in a heartbeat, but will probably never buy another Wilson.

SFW

I'd keeps the Wilson, as it sounds like you don't like some of the fit/finish of the Baer. That's will continue to eat at you if you keep it. All IMHO, of course.

Just the opposite exact experience for me, goes to shows it is based off of the individual 1911s not the brand.

Thanks again for all the replies. It's helped me quite a bit...up until Ruggles posted again

Again, it's definitely not something I want to do, and I've investigated all avenues to keep it. Sometimes there are more important things. Unfortunately, I now need to post some more pictures of the CQB in the classifieds.

Tough call for sure...I think either of them is a fantastic 1911. But you probably made the right choice. The LB probably has the edge due to its limited availability comparted to the CQB...but I am a sucker for WC's! The CQB is one of my all time favorite 1911's...looks...and otherwise. But...on the "rarity" of the 1.5" LB alone...I would probably have let the CQB go too.....and it kills me to even say that!

Geez! I just laughed reading over my post! I sound like a woman trying to sort through purses or shoes from the closet!

I say keep the LB.. especially since it has the 1.5" guarantee..also I do think that the LB is more aesthetically built than the Wilson.. however choosing a gun to keep on looks alone is foolish.. keep the better shooter
