I'm on a 1911 kick and would like a 9mm in a 1911 platform. I like the Kimber Aegis Pro 4" barrel and the Springfield EMP, but that only comes in a 3" barrel. I understand the EMP was specifically made to handle the 9MM, although it comes in 40 cal. Both are nice, really don't need one other than want one. The Kimber has a plastic mainspring backstrap and the EMP seems pretty solid. Both feel good in my hand. I like the EMP but can go either way. I'd carry either one. BTW, I have a Browning HP in my safe. Your opinions, and my research on this forum will greatly influence my decision. Thanks...Reloader_22...

The EMP is a better design and has no goofy FPS, that coupled with SA's customer service would make it a no brainer for me.

Can't really go wrong with either. The EMP is a sweet shooter, albeit a little pricey. I just picked up a NIB 9mm ProCarry2 for $789.00 off Gunbroker. Had Chuck Rogers crown the barrel and picked up some Horned Lizards from LD and it is buttery smooth. The polymer MSH will be swapped out shortly too.

i dont have any experience with either beyond holding them, all my 1911's (including a springfield 9mm) have been full size. i never had any issue out of any springfield with any type of ammo (only factory, i dont shoot reloads). only problems with any 1911 i had have been related to some no name mag. what i see locally is the kimbers sit, springfields move a lot quicker, especially emp's.

RIA now offers the 1911A1 in 9mm.

This is the Tactical model (w/ new grips).

The STI Ranger2 is a nice 9mm for $1k.

...or the Guardian. Same $.

What's FPS? I'm a huge Kimber fan, but I have shot the EMP and you couldn't go wrong with it for sure. And, like MD said, the SA Custom Shop is one of the best, if you ever decided to have some extra stuff done to it.

FPS = firing pin safety. :wavey:

Oh, OK. I figured it was something simple.

I'd choose the EMP between the two.

If you're primary use is to carry it I would go with the EMP. I have a Kimber Pro and an EMP .40 and the EMP is easier to conceal. The only thing I don't like about the EMP is the weight, but the 9mm version has an aluminum frame so that won't be an issue.

I have had decent luck with Kimber, but I recently traded out of my Kimber for a TRP and it is just a work of art. I have shot the EMP in 9mm multiple times and it is truly awesome. I do however love STI's offering in the Guardian, more so then the Kimber. The guardian and EMP would be a much closer debate but the downfall is that there are nowhere near the amount of STI owners out there as SA

EMP if I'm going for 9mm

I like the idea that the pistol was designed around the 9mm/40S&W.

My choice is the EMP. The Emp is a 9mm 1911. The others are .45acp platformed 1911s reworked to fire 9mm. With the EMP you get all the size reductions of a true 9mm platformed 1911. The one I fired was a SWEET shooter, too.

Bought an EMP 9mm on the spur of the moment when a good opportunity presented itself and am VERY pleased to say it's become my main carry gun. Carried in a tuckable IWB, it's almost invisible to all but those who'd be looking for "the signs" of a CCW. VERY fast and, for me, accurate at 20 yds. from the first time I fired it. Good natural point of aim. SA REALLY did a good design job on this gun.
If I carry a 45...this would be my back-up of choice. I probably wouldn't choose this for a "battle weapon" because of capacity...but that's the only reason.

Picked up my EMP 40 a little over 5 months ago and haven't put it down since.I have carried a few in the last 2 years and so far the EMP is the only one I have stayed with, occasionally I have carried my RIA CS-Tactical but always revert back to the EMP.Its been 100% with Golden sabers and I trust it fully.Once you find a good combo I say stay with it.

I compared the Kimber Ageis Pro in 9MM to the EMP, and with your comments and insights I'm going with the EMP. I've located two so I'll go tomorrow and pick one from the litter. I'll try to post pics of the DW Valor and the new EMP, but will need to figure out how to post pics..Thanks.....
