- Ok well he really didn't make me.. yet
but i was told im supposed to say that :tongueout:

- Anyways, I just finished my 4th range session with my first and only Glock and it still isnt exciting me at all, its very uncomfortable, RTF2 frame eats up my finger and pinky hangs off the grip and gets pinched between the mag.
- I was talking to the guys at the range behind the counter and they said after the first few hundred rounds its just as reliable as any polymer pistol. and as for my dreaded fear of the bluing wearing down.. he said it will happen to any black pistol and i can always get a refinish if i need to.
- he said I could get about $350 for the glock for a trade and the kimbers were onsale for $750 ( average internet price)..
Edit: i guess i should add what i want lol black kimber pro carry II .45

sooo my birthday is next month and i really really want one!!
btw- the girlfriend is not happy with the idea :steamed:

You can probably get 100 bucks more by selling it here on the forum classifieds. 350 is a piss ass trade in!

glockfan9
07-07-2010, 18:09
thats kinda what i was thinkin? i paid $550 for it 4 months ago and its the RTF2 so usually about $50 more. it has about 800rds thru it and a polished barrel, thats it!

bac1023
07-07-2010, 18:15
Yeah, you aren't going to get much trading it in. Try selling it outright.

As for your decision to go with a 1911, I'm all for it.

My Kimbers have been perfectly reliable from round one.

Well, they will normally run smoother after a few hundred rounds, even if you don't have a malfunction.

lol thats the plan. what would you guys think i could get for my glock? you have been around this stuff longer than I have.
- G19 RTF2 ( fishgill serrations) with box, 2 15rd mags, polished barrel appx 800rds thru it.

I know the fishgills are realitively rare.

I don't see why you couldn't get a good $400 for it, maybe more. :dunno:

Should be able to get at least $425-450, maybe more. Scope out the classifieds to see what they are going for. Just keep in mind you can get a NIB one for $399 + cost of GSSF membership.

Mrs HS is HIGHLY anti-gun. I've bought several in the last few months.

My wife was like WTF happened to the $500 Glock you were going to buy??? Now I've got a Kimber that was double the price and the DW is double and then some.

I told her at the time that it was the last one and i didnt need another one. bad part is im only 19yo so mom has to actually be there when I buy it and mom and the GF talk to eachother too much lol.

Just use the whole "no external safety on Glock vs the MUCH safer with 2 external safeties 1911" argument. That worked on Mrs Hokieshooter. Well, not really....but that's what I went with.

Go with the "I don't want to carry with a chambered round and no external safety" angle. Wife thought that made more sense when I explained it to her. She just wanted me to keep the price the same. $500 1911. Whoops. :whistling:

Brian, you have not meet Kat.I know about non-1911s, a little bit about 1911s. If something new shows up,she knows it,she knows the combo. I took a good "show" profit and got the Pro CDP you've got. Woke up the next day ta "nice Kimber,I was thinking about a .41mag just now" Kat gets a SW 51/I think,I cannot for the life of remember all the sw #s.

In return I got a raptor/commander size/pro carry 1 CDP,I reckon I did alright.'08. :dunno:

She is going to be even more pissed when you get addicted to 1911s and have to buy more. I trade off with the wife and by her furniture and what-not and then I get another 1911.

glockfan9
07-08-2010, 09:50
Ok well i had a little talk with her about not trying to control what i buy. I told her guns are a passion like she has her designer purses except guns actually have mechanical differences. I got the classic "whatever" then she texted me thismorning asking why i got soo upset about a gun last night? I just dropped it but im savin as much as possible cuz i want one for my birthday

And it doesn't end with just getting the 1911. Once "upgradeitis" sets in...it gets worse.

- he wants to get his ccw and needs a gun to carry, he talks about how much he loves mine and wants a 9mm.
- I just really need to shoot one though, ive never shot a .45 1911 but ive just held the kimber in store and love it. i dont know of anywhere that i could rent/borrow a kimber?

Not to give love life advice... but I can tell you this.... it WON'T get any easier, the sooner you get those controlling / overbearing problems under control -- the better off you will be. You aren't spending her money to buy it, and you're not married... she has no right to give you a bunch of grief over it.

Fix it or kick her to the curb. Sorry to be so blunt.

lol its not that bad guys. shes not controlling my money she just wants me to buy other things with it :p were moving down to tampa next year to finish school at USF and i am supposed to be saving for the basics and so i have money in the bank during the move. after we get down there and settled she could care less if I have 12 1911's and glocks ( i plan on doing!) but right now its technically not the financially responsible thing to do.
- And the glock is only on night stand duty for now because i cant carry for another year anyways so its not getting worn and abused. I baby that thing all day.
-quick question- If i get the kimber PC2 and after some use the slide and safety wear or whatever are the refinish options a good idea? do they last longer than stock?

Is money is any kind of issue, I'd just keep the Glock. It's already reliable, cheap to shoot and requires very little maintenance. I know it doesn't get as many points for style, but the Glock 19 is IMO, a very hard gun to beat. I have a few 1911s, but from my experiences, I'd trust a Glock (especially in 9mm) over a 1911 any 'ol day.

^ thats not what i want to hear! lol
- but in some way i feel like its the truth, i would trust my life to the glock if something happened in 30 seconds and thats why i bought it. its pretty damn ugly but im trying to change that little by little, i got the RTF2 with the fishgills so thats a head start, then polished the barrel so its gettin there. im debating on night sights.. but thats that

I have to work trades the same way the joys of married life.

I had the Kimber Tactical Pro II and it was reliable from day one I only shot four or five hundred rounds through it before I sold it and bought two Colts and I might buy a third Colt in two weeks but the only thing I didn't like about my Kimber is that it had a Aluminum frame I much prefer a steel I think the steel frame guns are much funner to shoot in my opinion which I believe the Pro carry is a steel frame.

If your buying it to primarily just carry it you'll be fine but if your planning to spend a lot of range time the steel makes a big deference but with a good holster the added weight don't change it too much.

Some folks go with...

Steel - Shoot a lot, carry a little.
Aluminum - Shoot a little, carry a lot.

I'm sort of the opposite. When I get my permit in the next few months...will carry the steel CBOB and use the (cheaper to shoot) aluminum Kimber for the range.

-huh??? seems like everything ive learned about the gun world is a little crroked. It seems like the ever soo trust glock is just so popular because its cheap for what it is. LE can buy them like crazy but they are no better than a 1911.
- I planned on the aluminum just because it is lighter, the only real reason i hit the range is so i can practice and be prepared if something went down.
- And where can i get one of these firearms suggarmommas you speak of? :dunno:
