View Full Version : A Shameful Admission

I don't know if I can post here any more. As of today I am no longer carrying a 1911 for my CCW. After having extensively tested and modified it,
today marks my formal transition to daily carry of a Heckler & Koch HK 45C.

The pistol is not as narrow as my 1911's, and therefore does not conceal quite as well. The trigger, of course does not compare. Those are the negatives.

On the plus side, it is much lighter in weight, it has a one round advantage over the Kimber Compact I carry in the summer with standard mags. I purchased and tested it with the full size HK 45 mags and it then yields a two round advantage over the full size Kimber I carry in the winter. It still weighs less than the compact 1911. The pistol is simple to maintain, I converted it from a Variant 1 to a Variant 9 in less than a minute. Which brings me to the next positive, is that it has the same manual of arms now as a 1911.

There was, however one positive which absolutely sealed the deal. This pistol is uncannily accurate. I shoot it better than any of my custom 1911's. I don't know why, and it really astonishes me but the fact is that with this HK I am getting consistently tighter groups in high speed shooting. I am not one of those one round per second how are my groups guys. I shoot as fast as I can accurately and with this pistol I am getting much tighter patterns at the same cadence as I fire my 1911's. That impresses the hell out of me and is what tilted the decision positively in favor of the HK.

I really am surprised, since it was not my intention to switch over to carrying this weapon. But the hype it receives is well earned. I still love the 1911 platform and will never sell off my collection, but at this point in time making the switch to the HK as my primary carry piece is a no-brainer for me.

Gotta go with what works.

No kidding. You have to go with what works for you and screw what the world thinks. And if there were a perfect gun for everybody....there would only be one gun made.

Hey, I am hard core 1911 addict but I carry a Glock about 50% of the time and make no apologies about it. Go with what works best for you.

Tell me about it. The very first time I picked up a H&K45 I shot it next to my Les Baer TRS and I could shoot groups that were just as good or better than the Baer out to 25 yards. I really want the full size since I will not switch from carrying the 1911. I just like how thin they are, and its hot in Texas.

Just kidding man, nice gun you have there. Enjoy and post some dirty pictures...

I envy you for having settled on one (any one) pistol. I've thus far been unable to do that effectively, so I find myself continually flopping between 1911's (mostly), an XD9sc, and my KelTec P3AT (just too darn easy to grab).

I had the USP45c, and ended up selling it. Wider to carry, lighter, but never adjusted to the trigger. Not heavy (actually light) but never got it just so.

I had a HK 45 uspc. It was a nice gun but I couldn't shoot it as well as a 1911. To each his own. Enjoy

Nice pistol. HK's are great guns. If you look around on Gunbroker or eBay you can find USP Compact mags with the flat baseplate - this makes the gun way more concealable than the huge finger extension mags that come with it.

Thanks for the support. I still don't understand how a lighter gun with a more difficult trigger is producing more accurate results, but I am not going to fight it.

And I will probably slink back to the 1911's from time to time.
