As far as telling your family you won't get killed, you would be lying. I sold mine when I noticed that more and more people are texting and not paying attention to driving. Didn't want to be a a stop light and some a-hole texting runs up my back. By the way I had a Triumph Speedmaster which I loved. But I love my wife and kids more and they need me.

I've been thinking about that, but I've been thinking the same years ago riding my roadbike ( bicycle ) just a few feet from 100kph buses speeding down the highways on bike trips. I was thinking this is not the safest place a dad should be hehe
The only difference now is my bike will have a motor
I'm trying to convince myself heehee

That bike is Sweet! I remember those and how they sounded. I have a 1981 KZ 550 that I ride to work 1-2 times a week in the summer. Not much you can do outside of being observant of others around you. I too am concerned about obliviot textors.

On another note, in my city in the last few months we've had 2-3 kids killed on crotch rockets losing control while going 70mph in a 40 mph zone. It's unfortunate, but a combination of age, bullet proof mentality, and lack of experience is also a big factor.

I was pretty lucky i had no major crashes , was just 18 at the time I think
Just got thrown off the bike once or thrice but not a scratch on me, beginner's luck :)
I dont think i'm that lucky anymore

Thinking of an on/off road bike this time, for touring
Pang sagada trip or a tour of the nautical highways

o baka vespa nalang hehe

As long as you take the necessary precautions and wearing the proper safety gears, you are lessening the chances of spilling.

Try a dual purpose bike. If you intend to pass through NLEX, SCTEX and SLEX, the BMW 650 GS or Honda Transalp will do.

Thanks, I just sold my last 2 a few weeks ago to pay off a credit card. So now that I have paid off that debt, I am now looking for another bike to get some new debt. Motorcycles are like an addiction, once you own one, it's very hard to live without one.

Allegra, the pleasure i get when riding a motorbike is unexplainable. I feel happy and rejuvenated after riding my bike. Compared to target shooting which i love to do also (before), honestly paps, i get more pleasure (almost triple) in riding. Unfortunately for me also, until now my wife does not share/understand that passion, but nevertheless i still ride. I have 3 bikes in my garage (despite my wife's disapproval. tigas ulo hehehe).

You might want to start with a 400cc bike like a honda superfour. It is a sport-touring, easy to handle, city-riding & slex-nlex friendly, low fuel consumption, beginner's bike.

Let's ride sometime, if you have one already. You wont regret it pare (baka makalimutan mo na ang Guns, gaya ng nangyari sa akin, i rarely touch them anymore). Ride safe!

+100 sir.. Tried Manila-Apari-Davao last March as a guest rider with a motorcycle club. It was very memorable ( Gun Ban kasi!!!)
Used a Yamaha XJR 400. I was supposed to use my Honda Hornet 600 but my dad used it because he sold his 2007 BMW 650 GS so that he could get the 2010 BMW GS.

Just remember fafa A that helmets are not meant to protect your head from injuries. They're meant to hold pieces of brain matter and prevent them from spilling on the concrete. Ingat ingat lagi sa pagmomotor

WOW fafa asian, that is my dream, to travel the nautical hi-way of luzon, visayas and mindanao (Aparri to southern mindanao). It's very memorable indeed (i can understand and almost feel the excitement/happiness you had). You may join our group fafa asian, in case you dont have one yet. We dont have monthly or annual fee, but we just love to ride, strongly bonded by the passion we all shared and love to do.

We ride mostly in Luzon only because we dont have enough time/days to travel to visayas or mindanao due to the nature of our work, though we really want to try it if given the chance. We have traversed the luzon north loop already as far as aparri, we've been to vigan, baguio and sagada, we tried the camarines sur and bondoc peninsula of southern luzon, etc.

For short rides (short blast as we call it), we go to subic, clark or tagaytay for a breakfast then back to manila before lunch. Some of our groupmates love to go to marilaque (somewhere up in sierra madre. a lot of twisties there) for a breakfast mostly every wednesday or thursday.

It is fun paps. You can feel your adrenalin rising up either when you do/tackle the twisties or when you're riding at high speed already. Maybe that's why the pleasure i feel with riding is so different (kind of unexplainable).

This saturday and sunday (july 24-25), we have an overnight ride to baguio. Fafas allegra and asian and other BOGS who have bikes (that can pass thru nlex), you are welcome to ride with us. I think some of our groupmates will not stay for the night (balikan sila) and you may join them too just in case you need to go back to manila on that same day.

The GS is a very good all-rounder bike (but very pricey). You will gonna have some of the best and memorable moments in your life with that bike paps...im very sure of that. Go with what your heart (and your pocket..hehehe) so desire paps but dont forget also that (of course) the family and safety come first (if ever you need to prioritize).

there is never that assurance. but a riding school and situational awareness goes a long way in minimizing that possibility...
