We will be having a new member join our ranks come this Friday...

New GT member PaCountryBoy just informed me earlier today that he will be picking up his RIA A1 later this week. Bac invited him to join in over on this part of the forum, but I wanted to get the word out in case he doesn't find it on his own for a while.

Hello all, My name is PCB. And I'm new to 1911's. Even though DP doesn't think I know how to navigate though this site, I'm here. As he took my flame from me, I will still tell everyone that I am picking up a new RIA 1911-A1 this friday, and plan to shoot it the following day. I'll have pictures posted as soon as I bring my new addition home.

No sir, not just yet. While shooting with DeerPredator and his friend, which had a Kahr PM45 (correct me if I'm wrong DP) that I happened to like. I'd like to get another LCP, SP101, G27, so many options Bac. I don't know if I'm even sure what I next.

I think it was indeed a PM45. It shot well, but he could not just make the gun run w/o a malfunction, huh?

I made it to Pittsburgh once in just over 4 hours.

Correct. I know I did not have a single issue with it and I didn't think you did either. I don't limp wrist a gun when I shoot it. I think that may have been his biggest problem.

Very cool.

I have a custom gun on the way soon that's already paid for, but my next actual purchase may not be until September.

Regardless of when I get it, I'm only looking at two or three more purchases the rest of the year. All of which will be under $550.

Sorry Glock lovers...I like anything that goes bang and I have two Glocks now but today I went out and bought another 1911. I have owned about every kind of 1911 and 45 but I had to have a Kimber for once...I bought the Ultra carry ll in black finish...I know it is just like my Colt Defender, practically the same thing but I like the black/blue guns best. I think stainless is pardon the expression, a bit ugly and I have never been enamored with my stnls Defender...the Kimber seems to be a very high end 1911 and I bet it is at the range also...bootman

bac1023

Congrats on your new Kimber.

I like them myself. :)

bootman
09-14-2010, 21:34
The Kimber needs some work...It is not very user friendly like the Defender I have...You must have this wire tool to lock the guide rod before disassembly and I had trouble getting the slide stop out and the devil getting it back in...I will need to work on the slide stop plunger pin so it will snap back in..I had to use a small screwdriver to push the spring plunger in before I could replace the slide stop...LIke I said very user unfriendly. I have got to figure out how to assemble and disassemble it without that wire pin...bootman

The pin is used to capture the spring.

Its a bull barrel setup.

Bac1023

Yes I know it is a bull barrel set up...The guide rod is identical to the one in my Colt Defender but the guide rod assembly in the Colt will come out without any capturing pin...and it goes back easily..Like I said the Kimber needs some fine tuning but I will get there. I am a pretty accomplished pistol smith myself and the Kimber will surrender to my will....In a few days I will have the thing coming apart exactly like my Defender. Thanks for the reply....bootman

In fact I just slipped the Defender guide rod assembly and slide stop pin into the Kimber by hand with no problem without a disasembly pin. The two parts will interchange....bootman

The gun needs a few hundred rnds run through it to loosten everything up and it will be fine. It looks like the finish on the frame is not too tough though...I will probably have it glass beaded pretty soon. That makes for a cool looking gun. I have a Star PD 45 that I had done that way years ago and it still looks good. the Star PD is a very nice gun contrary to what some people have said about them. With an aluminum frame gun you just don't shoot full loads in them for practice and I never shoot full loads in mine ...but they are in it for when the time comes they are needed!....bootman
