I'm looking to build my own AR but I'm not sure about the lower. I want 5.56, but is there really anything I should look for in a lower?

This rifle would be to plink with and maybe HD but I want to over build it in case I do start shooting it a lot more.

As far as a lower goes, you'll want to pick a reputable manufacturer that has good quality control. Some of the finishes/coatings on the the lowers differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, so if that makes a difference to you, just a heads up. But a reputable manufacturer that has produced and sold thousands of lower, in all likelihood

Steer clear of the the "off-brand" lowers. Some tend to be out of spec and don't offer too much in the way of customer support.

Nowdays there is also a choice between whether you want a billet lower or a forged lower. There are a lot of choices out there, it's just a matter of picking your poison. Let us know if we can help.

Makers- A list I found on another site, it said top half better quality.
I could not remove the highlighting.
One thing to watch for, most receivers are mil spec hard anodized, some are teflon coated and will not match color well so pick the same treatment on the upper and lower receivers. Some manufactures just have more tooling marks than others.

Thanks so much for the info. From what I've read, it seems like its really just up to what logo you like (if you order from a reputable manufacture).

What about a lower parts kit? Same thing, stick with a reputable manufacture?

LPK's are one in the same. CMT/Stag, DPMS or RRA are good to go.
