My first trip to the range with my new "No Name" and I have only one real complaint: I did not know about Guncrafter Industries before.
This may be the class of the field for the group known as Semi-Custom. The gun has a classic look and feel, is well balanced and as accurate as the shooter from round one. The only curiosity and one confirmed in a telephone conversation with Alex is that is does not like Tripp mags. It does not feed the last round. Odd but true. It works fine with McCormick and ACT and of course the Guncrafter mags. Aside from the Tripp FTF I did not experience one problem in 200 rounds of WWB FMJ, Federal 230 Gr. FMJ and Remington Golden Saber 230 Gr. JHP.
The Shredder grips and the aggressive front and back strap are not as bad as one might expect and amazingly seem to reduce felt recoil. If you are planning to carry this gun IWB without a shirt between you and the grips you might want to donate your own blood as this may be a problem. A set of Alumagrips offered by GI should solve the problem.
The Melonite finish is reportedly very durable and a light coat of oil should be all that is needed to keep the gun looking fresh.
The 50 Cal is a stretch for those of us who do not load our own ammunition, but I think two GI's (Govt. and Bob Tail Commander) would fill most every need at a reasonable price with absolute reliability. It is also very comforting to be able to pick up the phone and get to talk to Alex. In my experience the only other one to do this is Les Baer and when you can talk to the guy who designs and can build the gun, if you have a problem it will be solved in short order. Anyone thinking of buying a 1911 in this class should give careful consideration to Guncrafter Industries.
