you might check out www.coldsteel.com they have all kind's of tactical fixed blades. and www.topsknives.com they have some pretty bad little fixed blades also. i have the tracker knife and the wolf pup awesome blades. the only cold steel fixed blade i have is the srk which is one awesome knife.
one other thing cold steels website pricing is ridiculously high, definitely check out other websites before buying

ESEE or the old Rat Cutlery Knives. Great knives, awesome warranty. My one and only suggestion.

Use it, lose it. Don't get anything fancy, simple and cheap fits the job description.

Normally I won't recommend Cold Steel, but their Roach Belly is under 4" I think, and ought to be fine. Out of curiosity, why a fixed blade? Not that they aren't stronger and more reliable, but there are some fast folders for cheap and most folks would prefer one for discretions sake. You may find not all policemen know the details of the law.

Check out the Polecat and variants from Al Polkowski and Bob Dozier's Mini Freedom Fighter (MFF) (blade < 4", if that matters). If you like the MFF, make sure you don't get the false edge sharpened. Both have full guards.
