I have seen a number of examples of Chuck Rogers' work on this forum, and respect and admire it greatly. Ok, I want one, really really bad. But somebody please tell me, is it really worth $7,000? I saw this one on Gunbroker:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=179988496
Can those of you in the know tell me if this is for real what one of Rogers' pistols would go for? Just curious.

If it weren't road-pizza green, that would be a nice pistol. :whistling:

Worth the asking price?

That depends on how bad you want a Rogers original, I guess. :embarassed:

Custom guns are worth what people will pay for them.

I have a new Morris Tactical Elite on order for the same price. Of course, that's a new gun, but its still $7K.

I won't spend that much on a 1911 again. For me, its one and done for that price. However, when it comes to custom guns, the sky is really the limit.

I've never shot one of his guns but I would bet a Wilson wouldn't compare for a second there's a reason Chuck's work cost that much I believe he's got a 6 or 7 year back log of work and isn't excepting anymore orders.

As Brian said they are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay. Seeing Chuck isn't taking new orders on full builds there must be quite a few people that think they are worth the asking price. As with selling anything used the asking price all depends on how soon you need the money. It might take six months to get $7K for that pistol but eventually someone will come along that has to have it.

Looking at some of his guns, they are truly fantastic. My point is that you are paying for the artistry and fit/finish, not functionality. I don't believe for a second that a top of the line Wilson Combat will not shoot as well as one of Chuck's guns. I can think of a few reasons why the cost is so high for one of his guns, none of which involve accuracy. Take a look at his website. You'll see many examples of hours and hours of machine work, hand tooling, and one of a kind modifications. What you won't see is a claim for the most accurate 1911's in the world.

You don't find that claim from Wilson Combat either and their super grades cost $4,475.00 I'm pretty confident that Chucks gun will out shoot the Wilson's in accuracy but that's just my opinion maybe Chuck will come give his.

That's one of the reasons he charges more than $7000 for a handgun: he can. Apparently there are those who are firm believers that his 1911's are more accurate than anybody elses, with no emperical (or even anecdotal) evidence to support thier beliefs. If people believe your product is the best of its type bar none, you can charge whatever you want and people will pay it. I can walk into my local gun store and pick a Wilson Combat off the shelf and take it home (a local store actually has a very nice collection in thier display case), and I would probably never be able to shoot well enough to be more accurate than the pistol. That being said, it's still an off the shelf gun. The Chuck Rogers guns are one-of-a-kind hand built works of art. That's what adds the extra $3000, not the alleged increase in accuracy, IMHO.

I agree you're paying for the one of a kind piece of art the is as accurate and reliable as the best of them.

I do believe you are getting something more for your money they aren't equals on any level for someone who wants the best he is probably it. I can't afford his gun's but I would love to own one someday.

Seiko vs Omega watches
Polk vs Bower & Wilkins speakers
Old Navy vs Lacoste polos
Etc, etc, etc...

It looks like the front sight install was N/C. In all fairness, he did shoot 250 rounds through it. Add range fees & his time, seems about right to me. The ammo alone was probably @ $100. I'm a 1911 rookie, but $7K seems steep to me.

I can't find ANY inexpensive 45acp anywhere. Our local Wal-Mart never has any in stock. 250rds of quality ammo cost me over $110.
327.75 - 110.00 = 217.75
FedEx is expensive, especially with a LOT of insurance. I charge my actual costs.
217.75 - 94.75 = 123.00
Wolff recoil spring. My cost $5.
123.00 - 5.00 = 118.00
This was the 2nd owner of this gun. He had a small problem with point of aim/point of impact. I removed and replaced the tritium front sight with a brand new one. No charge.
The $118.00 had to cover:
Travel time to the range; range fees; time spent shooting; a detailed strip, inspection and clean; time spent on the sight exchange; time spent on FedEx packaging, paperwork and delivery to the FedEx hub;
time spent communicating with the new owner, both e-mails and phone conversations.
Conservatively I spent 7 hours on this.
$118.00 divided by 7 = $16.85 an hour GROSS. No allowance for overhead etc.
Sound overpriced? You tell me.

The M3 brings more to the table than just power and exclusivity. The handling is considerably better, and from everything I have read, the HPFP in the 335i has been nothing but trouble. Are they on revision 4 or 5 now?
