What belt do you use to support the weight of your 4-5" 1911? My Kimber makes my belt sag and I need one that will support it.

I have two. First one is a leather belt from Crossbread and the other is a Frequent Flyer 5 stitch from Wilderness Tactical. I perfer the increased asjustablity of the Wilderness belt and it has no problem supporting a full size, all steel 1911.

Either a Blackhawk leather belt or an instructors belt.

Between a Galco SB2 Sport belt and a 5.11 Stitched Casual Holster Belt, is one of them definitively better than the other, or are you just paying more for the Galco name?

Just a word of advice, don't go cheap on the belt. Get something that will last

I wear Mitch Rosen belts. I bought my first one 10 years ago. I wore it exclusively for 8 years, before I bought a second. It's still the belt I wear when not dressed up and I use it for IDPA.

Any real gunbelt will do. Galco and Wilderness tactical set the standard, and will last damn near forever.

I wear a 1 3/4" Black Leather belt made by Gary Brommeland. It is the best leather belt I have tried. Coming in a close second would be a belt from the Beltman.

A 1.5 in. wide quarter inch thick black leather w/ removable buckle. Hellweg, from Brownells, but it was expensive.

I have a belt by the beltman, 2 by Milt Sparks, and a couple others and for some reason I always go back to my Wilderness Instructors belt. I wear it most of the time off duty and find it to be my favorite. I carry either a 5" or commander size and it does great with both.

if on a budget, the Uncle Mike's Instructor belt works well and only costs $25.

You'll like it. I got mine with 7 holes, black buckle. I also got an extra silver buckle, but have not used it yet.

Yeah, I am going to do the same (7 holes). Heard nothing but good things about Beltman. Have a Sparks VM2 (Sept/Oct delivery) on order and may pick up an Occidental Phoenix to see which I like better.

I use a USGI trouser belt (heavy nylon web) for my lighter carry guns (EMP).

For the heavies  I use a 1.5" leather belt made by M/D Enterprises. I've been using it for a good long time, and it supports the guns very well.

Don't scrimp on a belt if you carry anything heavier than 28 ounces, you'll probably never be comfortable!

I use Hellweg Int. 1.5'', double thick leather belt. I have had it for over ten years, and it is still structurally sound. It was less than 40 bucks.
I still have another on stand by (NIB). I don't think i'm ever going to get around to using it.

A double thickness Hume gun belt.
I have worn it for the last seven years or so, and she's still going strong.

Tighten the screws down when you get it. My Dad didn't & they fell out. The Beltman will send new screws & loop if needed for cheap.

is the instructors belt any thinner then a typical leather gun belt?

GunFighter45ACP
07-27-2010, 11:32
I like 1.5" for leather or 1.75" for nylon. The nylon belts are thinner than leather, but if you have a reinforced belt, they can be just as thick. It's not a biggie, but I have noticed that the extra thickness on these nylon ones can make them less pliable than leather, so when threading an OWB holster on them that's to be worn in the area of the reinforcement, so you may have some issues.

I own three 1 1/2" gun belts. The first, a Don Hume. I rate it "good". The second is from the "Belt Man". It has the stiffener insert and I rate it "excellent-plus". The third is a Wilderness Tactical "Instructor" 5-stitch belt. I rate it "very good".

My other belts from Walmart ? Fuggettaboutit. :whistling:

I have been thinking about ordering a new gun belt from Wilderness.
So far I have made it through the checkout process three times, but always stop myself from submitting the order.

I JUST got my belt from the Beltman. 1 3/4 bull hide with an internal stiffner for my 1911 5" in a IWB holster.

This is the BEST belt I've ever owned. It's high quality and holds the gun in place like it's glued to my side. I was worried it would be uncomfortable but it's damn nice. I even wear it when I'm not wearing my gun. :)
