Slide stop or sling shot?

I've always been taught to use the "sling shot" method when loading a fresh round into the gun.

Since this is the recommended method why would GLOCK come out with an "extended" slide stop?

Is there any harm done to the firearm using the slide stop to release the slide?

The truth of the matter.... Glock Inc heard about the success AroTek was having with their extended slide stop and knocked it off. They still preach the sling shot method but sell 40K extended slide stops a year.
