Someone was asking for a picture of this. While digging it up, nangati nanaman ako to build something similar. C.T. Brian was my inspiration but this was executed by Tony O. Post your single stack projects here para maiba naman. We have threads na for the tupperware and race gun setups.

Okay, I'll play, my FrankenColt:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd37/CatsMeow_07/Guns/IMG_0191.jpg
Rare 1945 Colt "JSB" frame, Essex slide, Novak target rear sight, Rock Island barrel, Armscor hammer, sear and thumb safety, Wilson stainless slide stop, dehorned John Masen grip safety, Tony Pascual trigger and "recoil reducer". Assembly and trigger job by Alastair Cortes of Mandaue City. Doesn't rattle.
I may have to let go of it soon, fired it only once after my transfer here.

Thanks, Pogi. That setting was right outside the Cortes shop in Mandaue. Those who've gone there would remember the smell...:whistling:

I'll be bringing it to Tony O soon for filling in the pitting at the right side. It runs well on the original GI extractor. I gave the old Colt slide stop to a doctor who had the slide stop break on his Norinco, still holds up until now.

(When I do let go of it, it will come with four (4) Chip McCormick mags)

Not really a build, but here's my upgraded Kimber TLE/RL-II. It now sports EB Ambi, Memory groove grip safety and S&A Magwell. Plus replaced the stock hammer & sear with STI (USA) parts. All parts are in 'Tactical' black, except that I found out that that plunger tube is actually stainless, painted in black :(.

Sir Clark, may I confirm if Gil Martinez built the Mag Well. Is that made out of stainless steel or polished aluminum? The manner it was installed looks very neat.

________

Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you. He is training with minimal food or water, in austere conditions, training day and night. The only thing clean on him is his weapon and he made his web gear. He doesn't worry about what workout to do - his ruck weighs what it weighs, his runs end when the enemy stops chasing him. This True Believer is not concerned about 'how hard it is;' he knows either he wins or dies. He doesn't go home at 17:00, he is home.
He knows only The Cause.

Still want to quit?

Yup, it was custom made by Gil, I think he used carbon steel for the horseshoe before he welded it on. I like this magwell because it does not extend the grip of the gun and does not make the pistol any fatter.

Nice one, Jake. New school treatment on the old school 2-tone look. Ang linis tingnan yet very unique which is very hard to achieve on a 1911 these days.

from what i heard, pwede naman daw pero scoring minor if you load 9, load 8 would qualify you to score major.

Caliber 9mm is still minor scoring regardless of no. of ammo capacity in single stack magazine.

Ganun din pala bro, then might as well use .45 if minor scoring lang ang load-9 sa .40

IMO a .45 is more reliable and has a friendlier recoil than a .40

kung 9 rounds or more is minor, tapos 9mm or 38 super is minor. May advantage kaya if i use 9mm or 38 super, load 10? Parang malaking advantage yung additional 2 bullets.

gandang tanong yan a
9mm mahina recoil sa 1911 tapos plus 2 pa

For me, i'd still go for the 40 na load 8 lang

Where can I find an original Caspian slide and frame? I've seen a few but both were later found out to be fake, and the only other brands I've seen in MCS are those Korean made Iron Side frames. (Twin Pines did have a few ParaOrd frames, but I'm looking at SS for now).

Hi Jawel, yup, its a .45, i plan to use to same ammo ng revo ko para minimal logistics. regarding the firing pin, pag sa revo, i dont believe in using extended firing pins for ultralightened setups, ni compute na namin ni ans yan at experienced it first hand. most people dont believe me until they test my 6.5lb trigger pull

since colt yan, dont do anything irreversible para ma preserve yung value. keep the original parts in case you want to sell the unit.

just buy sight that would drop in. a hammer set that would give you a nice trigger pull and wilson mags or cmc power mags

One more thing...I noticed that the front sight on my 1911 is the original old style (pinned) and there is rusting beneath it. I cleaned it out well with some WD40 and brushes (and floss to reach under the sight)...

Although I like the classic look of the pistol, I think that I might have a front sight dovetailed na lang.

Agree. I still have my wilson drop in commander beavertail that won't fit without building up some metal with my commander frame. So i decided to retain the stock one. Depende siguro sa brand ng 1911 gun, merong drop in talaga sa iba naman hindi.

For sight, I would recommend King-Tappan if they're still available back home. IMO, they're very sturdy for carry use. Unfortunately King's Gunworks already closed and their parts have become scarce. On the bright side, the King's trademark may be bought by an interested party, and parts may be produced once again.

I somehow like the arched mainspring housing. I seem to have a better "feel" of the gun.

For the pin set, I would recommend Wilson, Ed Brown or Cylinder and Slide.

For the grips, I would leave them as it is. I like the Pachmayr wrap around grips.

If you want to replace the trigger, a Videcki trigger would be nice on the gun.

thanks for the input bro. you're right i'm having double thoughts of replacing the grips. hope i can find the sight, otherwise i'm eying for night sights that are drop-in too. yes, will put wilson parts. i'm thinking though if i'll replace the trigger because it's metal already and it's blued/black.

What's good about Videcki trigger compared to new style triggers with skeletonized bow?

What's good about Videcki trigger compared to new style triggers with skeletonized bow?

The Videcki trigger is the traditional three-holed trigger, and I believe it's made of aluminum. I've had that type of trigger installed on my 1911s and I find them good. The STI skeletonized trigger is made of polymer, and I don't like it. The holes on the trigger are also large, and there's a big chance that something could be wedged in the hole. If you have large hands (or long fingers), the Videcki trigger would give you the right trigger feel. My experience is that if the trigger is short, the finger curves a lot and I can't pull the trigger well.

There could be gunsmiths or BOGs that have "retired" their King Tappan sights.

A close friend of mine did a 100 yard group which measured 1.5" on his almost stock Colt 1911 with King-Tappan sights, Videcki Trigger, and Dwyer Group Gripper (before Wilson bought the rights to the product) installed. Ammo used was RPA. He was a student and a good friend of the late Col. Jeff Cooper.

Just did a search, and a gunsmith makes the King Tappan style sights:

a word about the rubber wrap arounds
sa observation ko lang, I dont like anything rubber on my grips especially wrap arounds
Nabagalan ako mag regrip pag hindi positive and dampot ko sa baril during the draw stroke. Rubber kasi kumakapit sa balat kahit maluwag ang grip mo
Unlike wood or plastic, luwagan mo grip mo and your hand can slide easily sa surface to get a positive grip in the gun.

Pero for some reason , I like rubber grips sa revolvers

Has anybody seen a SAM GI Commander-E (Enhanced), back home? It's a nice pistol, and there have been a lot of praises for this pistol here (even their full-size GI model). I would say, their workmanship is better compared to their local counterparts. It also has a conventional barrel and bushing.

Even the earlier version has a very good review from Hickok45:

I haven't seen Colt Commander lately in stores. but if you seen one of that a 1991 Commander, yes it is the same size, all Colt's Commander has the same barrel length at 4.25". the difference of the latest version (Series 80) from my commander and drhiredguns' (both Series 70, rare to find) is the firing pin safety block of the series 80 which the 70 doesn't have.

stan, may 8 round limit pala for major? sayang naman 9 rounder mags for .40 like Wilson's. Sayang at pwede din pala Bull Barrel. Ok ang Single Stack to be a separate Division after WS, Greece. Dami siguro maglalaro sa Division na 'to.

Hi Itch, yup there will be round limit for major and minor calibers.
This is to level the playing field and stop the magazine capacity race :)

KS,

bili na single stack! after greece magkaroon na ng SS division hehehehe!

Seeing your pistol makes me wanna go back to single stack .45's nga...

Question though: How are the newly made Colts nowadays? I saw a Colt Rail Gun (I know ambaduy nung name, wish they removed it) and it looks really really nice, however, I've heard that Colt's today aren't as good as they were before, and really need tweaking out of the box. If I'm going to shell out money in the 90k++ range, then I'd expect the thing to be good to go out of the box diba?

The only other railed 1911's I've seen available at MCS was the Kimber Warrior being sold for 120k? (Could be wrong). Any other alternatives? Was hoping to see Sig 1911 with rail but its out of stock.
