I have had the 1911 "fever" for years now. I go to a gun stores and I walked directly to the 1911 case. I go to a gun show and I scan over the 100s of none 1911s and stop and look at all the 1911s at each table. I browse the 1911 maker websites and forums more or less ignoring none 1911 stuff.

Now I find my self still loving the slab side ole gal but I am more and more drawn to these darn things:

http://www.uberti.com/

I currently only have the 7 1/2" Outlaw but really want more!

So what non 1911 category of firearms is everybody else "drawn" too?

I'm a fan of just about all handguns.

1911s are my favorite, but I also like collecting and shooting older steel or metal 9mms. I love the exotic stuff.

Gentleman,

Saying you like type A, type B, type C type D of guns is not a "category" :)

Now see Redheads was specific....he did not say "women"....he chose a category of women....

Let's try this:

I really like single action revolvers too. I own three of them. Uberti makes a nickel plated Schofield replica that I really like, but its about $1300. Maybe someday.

Colt revolvers, particularly the classic lock-work designs like the I frame, D frame, New Service, etc. The only problem is that the pricing is getting ridiculous.

Like the OP, I find those SA's fascinating. I have a Ruger .45 ACP/.45 Colt convertible and a Ruger Single Six .22/.22 mag convertible, love to shoot 'em both.

Am thinking about having the frame on the .45 switched out to brass.

Was at the range one day, and the guy next to me broke out a Freedom Arms SA in .45 Colt. In my humble opinion, that's the Cadillac of single action revolvers. I couldn't stop staring, drooling, etc.-- it was the most beautiful firearm I have ever seen. If I hit the lottery, that's the first gun I'm buying.

I would have to go with my cowboy action guns.. love my blackhawk that is chambered in .45 acp, long colt and .45 Winchester mag. Also my Marlin lever gun in 45-70 (Hornady Lever-evolution ammo is awesome!).. Winchester silvertips in the longcolt have dropped many a deer.. if it was not for such the thin walls in the apartment it would deffnly be the bedside gun of choice.

I agree the FAs are the ultimate SA revolvers :) I do not have any but they are sweet indeed.

I like the Uberti firearms because of their historical reproduction and their prices are a heck of a lot better than a new Wilson, Brown type 1911! :)

If we're speaking strictly firearms, other than 1911's, I'm a revolver guy. A well made wheel gun is just very comforting. The only real "modern" handguns I like are Glocks and it's limited to just a few models.

I'm more of an old school guy at heart. I like things that are heavy and made of metal and leave a big hole.

Yeah the Python and the S&W Model 10 are American classics, opposite ends of the spectrum in ways but both still classics IMO.

I love retro rifles...M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, M1A...that wants to be a M14, and my Jungle Gun...Colt 603 upper with all the Viet Nam trimmings.

I just bought a used Colt Goverment...my first 1911. I just got it out of jail today! I have shot about 200 rounds through it so far. As a noob to the 1911 platform I have no frame of reference for comparison. Here my review for whatever its worth.

Under 1k with the custom work and the upgrades, trigger job, mag well, bever tail, grip serations. All done by James Hoag.

The action feels tight and smooth, trigger is 4ibs very crisp, good roll marks, Sights are big and remind me of my Phython sights, Ambi safety is nice(Lefty)

This gun is on the Ca roster...so it can't be that cool.

For a serious target pistol though I prefer all steel frames and single action only.

I have the same mindset. Polymer=Glock to me. Why waste time experimenting with plastic? Stick with what's cheap and works.

I like S&W revolvers, especially J-frames.

When I go to a gunshop, I look at the Glocks first.
Then I move over to the revolver section.
Then I check out all the used guns.
I save the best for last: the 1911 section.
